The clip, which quickly spread on social media, shows how one creator manages her monthly expenses within a fixed limit. What started as a personal finance post has turned into a wider online debate, with users split over whether living in Mumbai on a tight budget is actually realistic.

While some viewers see it as a practical example of disciplined money management, others feel the breakdown does not fully reflect the real cost of living in the city.

Viral Instagram video sparks budget conversation

The discussion began after content creator Ayushi shared a video on Instagram explaining how she manages her monthly expenses while living in Mumbai.

“Trying to make 25k work in Mumbai!!” she wrote in her post.

In the video, she explains her spending pattern and how she stays within a set budget.

“This video is all about how to manage living in Mumbai under ₹25K,” Ayushi says.

She breaks down her monthly expenses: rent and electricity take the largest share at around ₹14,000, travel costs are about ₹2,000 using public transport, and food expenses come to nearly ₹6,000 as she prefers cooking at home.

The remaining amount is used for miscellaneous expenses, including gym and hobbies.

Users question the breakdown

As the video gained traction, users began analysing the numbers. Some pointed out that the total appears to exceed ₹25,000 when all expenses are added, with estimates going closer to ₹27,000.

In response, Ayushi clarified that her “other” expenses usually stay within ₹3,000, helping her remain under the ₹25,000 budget. She added, “So, yeah. You can still save if you want.”

Mixed reactions on social media

The video received a mixed response online. Some users appreciated the breakdown as a realistic approach to city budgeting, while others questioned whether Mumbai living can truly be managed within such a budget.

Housing also became a key point of discussion, with Ayushi clarifying in replies that her accommodation is shared.
