Women's Day: 5 not to miss WhatsApp's Privacy Superpowers
To celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day, WhatsApp has outlined five security features or “Privacy Superpowers”. The Meta-owned instant messaging service believes that these features will offer every user a safe space to communicate with their family and friends. Over the years, the platform has launched numerous innovative features to ensure that user privacy is protected at all times and people feel empowered to take control of their online safety.
Here’s a list of 5 privacy features on WhatsApp that will help build a private and safe messaging experience for its users, especially women in the digitally connected world.

Controlling online information and presence

On WhatsApp, users can control their personal details like Profile Photo, Last Seen, Online status, About, Status and who sees it by selecting who gets access to their online information. For this, users have four options -- everyone, contacts only, selected contacts and no one. These options empower users to control their digital presence.

Users can choose who they want to talk to

WhatsApp is a private and safe space for people to communicate with their loved ones and people who have your phone number. However, at times when users receive problematic messages from unknown numbers, they can ‘block and report’ the account. Blocked contacts or numbers will no longer be able to call or send them messages.

Safeguarding account privacy

On WhatsApp, users can add an extra layer of security to their accounts by enabling Two-Step Verification. This will require users to type in a six-digit PIN while resetting and verifying their WhatsApp account.

Not every message needs to last forever

For added privacy in conversations, users can turn on disappearing messages that vanish in after a selected time. Users can either choose messages to auto-delete within twenty-four hours, seven days or ninety days after the time they are sent. The message will disappear depending on the duration the user selects.

Securing the most private chats

WhatsApp’s Chat Lock feature can protect the most intimate conversations of a user with a password. This feature secures these chats in a separate folder. With this feature enabled, when someone whose chat is locked messages the user, no one can see those messages even if someone else has their phone.
