KARNAL: Senior BJP leader Manohar Lal Khattar and candidate from Karnal constituency, who is among the chief ministerial probables, is confident of his party winning 50-plus seats in the Haryana. Buoyed by the exit poll surveys, most of which show BJP within touching distance of majority, Khattar said his party was strengthened in Haryana due to the misrule of the outgoing Congress government.
Under the Congress rule, people of north Haryana remained neglected due to political bias of chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Khattar said, adding, "This proved to be a major game changer for BJP in the state."
Besides the wave of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, people of Haryana, who had already experienced the rule of INLD, had made up their mind to give BJP a chance to change the manner in which the state had been run so far, he claims. "Not only political entities, but many non-political outfits came out openly in support of BJP in anticipation of pro-development agenda that has strengthened the foundation of the party's ideology across the country," Khattar said.
On the issue of being made the Haryana CM if BJP was voted to power, Khattar said it was for the party's parliamentary board to take a final call and he would give his best to whatever responsibility was offered to him. He, however, added that there was a feeling that the next CM should come from north Haryana as the region had long remained neglected, while southern parts of the state prospered at its cost.
