Union home minister Amit Shah on Thursday attacked Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren saying his "government's countdown" has begun in the state after the first phase of polling in the Assembly elections. He claimed that the BJP was confident of forming the government in Jharkhand.

Accusing Soren and JMM-led coalition leaders of plundering Jharkhand's rich mineral and other resources, Shah alleged they have also devoured Rs 3.90 lakh crore sent by the Centre for the state's poor.

CP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Thursday claimed that Maharashtra has fallen into the wrong hands in the past few years and has suffered a decline.
He was in the Chinchwad assembly constituency in Pune district to canvass for his party candidate Rahul Kalate, who faces off against BJP's Shankar Jagtap in the November 20 Maharashtra polls.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister and BJP's Jharkhand co-incharge, Himanta Biswa Sarma, launched a scathing attack on the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), accusing the party of attempting to keep the state trapped in poverty under Chief Minister Hemant Soren's leadership.

Sarma also defended the BJP’s election manifesto, stating that it had been prepared after extensive deliberation and research. He assured that funding would not be an issue, citing the state's abundant natural resources.

"Our election manifesto wasn’t created in haste. We spent 4-5 months consulting with the people of Jharkhand and studying the governance models of BJP-led states before drafting it. Funding will not be a problem for us, as the state is rich in natural resources. While the JMM aims to keep Jharkhand trapped in poverty, we believe the state has the potential to become the most prosperous in the country," Sarma told the media.

The first phase of Jharkhand's assembly elections, which began on Wednesday, recorded a voter turnout of 64.86% by 5 pm across 43 assembly constituencies, surpassing the 63.9% turnout in the 2019 assembly elections, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI).
