Assam BJP on Monday told the chief electoral officer (CEO) that the ongoing socio economic survey carried out by the party had no links with elections and did not amount to a violation of model code of conduct.

Responding to a notice by the CEO following a complaint of violation filed by CPM, BJP state general secretary Diplu Ranjan Sarma said, "The survey is a continuous process that the party has been carrying out across the state much before the elections to assess the reach of govt schemes." Meanwhile, BJP lodged a complaint with the CEO alleging that the distribution of pamphlets with titles of the 'five guarantees' promised by Congress was an MCC violation.
