Bill Gates meets PM Modi, top leaders in India to discuss AI, technology and more​

Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft and philanthropist, recently visited India to engage in discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior Indian leaders. The focus of his visit was on several key areas, including artificial intelligence (AI), healthcare, agriculture, and technology.

During his meeting with Prime Minister Modi, Gates expressed his admiration for India’s progress in sectors like AI and agriculture. Gates highlighted the country's vision for becoming a developed nation by 2047, referred to as "Viksit Bharat."

Gates’ visit also included a meeting with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, where they discussed how AI and predictive analytics could be used to improve service delivery in healthcare, education, and agriculture.

In another significant meeting, Gates engaged with Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, where they explored AI-based solutions to address challenges in agriculture, healthcare, education, and climate resilience. The discussion centred around the potential collaboration between the India AI Mission and the Gates Foundation, with an MoU expected to be signed soon.

Earlier in the week, Gates met Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan to discuss how AI and machine learning can revolutionize agriculture. Key topics included enhancing food security, improving rural development, and applying new technological solutions to boost agricultural productivity.

Gates’ interactions emphasized the ongoing commitment of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support India in its ambitious development goals, with an eye on long-term cooperation to address critical challenges and create a brighter future for all citizens.

Bill Gates also met with Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda to review ongoing collaborations between the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Indian government in strengthening India’s healthcare systems. Notable progress in maternal health, immunisation, and sanitation was discussed, with the Foundation playing a critical role in these areas.
