Exit Poll Results 2026 Live Updates: Today's Chanakya predicts DMK+ to retain TN, big debut for TVK; close fight in Kerala

Exit Poll Results 2026 Live Updates: Pollsters have predicted BJP sweep in West Bengal and DMK win in Tamil Nadu. Moreover predictions say UDF win in Kerala and BJP win in Assam.

The high-stakes second and final phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections concluded today. Polling in Phase 2 took place across 142 constituencies amid tight security and intense campaigning by the ruling All India Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Many of these seats are considered strongholds of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, though the BJP mounted an aggressive push to make inroads. Key districts including Kolkata, Howrah, North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Hooghly and Purba Bardhaman saw brisk voting through the day.

The first phase, held on April 23 across 152 constituencies, recorded a historic turnout of over 91–93%, with Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar calling it the highest since Independence. The strong participation, despite sporadic incidents and controversy over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, has set the tone for a closely contested election.

Across other states, voter turnout has also been notably high. Tamil Nadu recorded over 84–85% voting in its single-phase election for 234 seats, with the main contest between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

Assam saw a strong turnout of around 85.9% across its 126 seats, while Kerala recorded approximately 75–78% polling in a competitive multi-front contest. Puducherry registered a record 89.87% turnout, the highest since its first Assembly election in 1964.

Overall, the high voter participation across states reflects strong electoral engagement and has raised the stakes for the final outcome. With exit polls expected to offer early trends, the final results on May 4 will determine the political direction in these key states.

Tamil Nadu's political parties are still waiting for final turnout figures, five days after voting was held on April 23 for 234 assembly segments in the state. It witnessed brisk polling from 7am in a four-cornered contest, and the turnout reached 85.15% by the end of the day.

Two days later, the Commission made corrections after re-verification, bringing the provisional voting percentage down to 85.10%, a decline of 0.05%. Authorities, however, have not yet released the gender-wise breakup (men, women and third gender) or disclosed the absolute numbers.

ECI officials said they would release the final report on counting day. "We will be collecting postal votes until 8am on counting day (May 4), so we cannot provide a complete report until then. We have updated the polling percentage on our portal. If there is a change, it will be marginal, possibly around 1%, as there are approximately six lakh postal votes," said a senior ECI official.

The second phase of high-stakes assembly elections in West Bengal kicked off with incidents of violence and allegations of voter intimidation and technical glitches. Incidents of violence and vandalism were reported from several parts of West Bengal during the early hours of voting, including Chapra, Shantipur, Nimtala and Bhangar, West Bengal Police said.

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee visited various booths in her Bhabanipur assembly constituency, where she faced Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari in a prestige battle seen as a symbolic rematch of Nandigram, where he had defeated her in 2021.

Election Exit Poll Result 2026: 'We'll hit century in Assam, double century in Bengal', says CM Himanta
Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed strong confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) electoral performance, claiming that the party has already secured significant momentum after the first phase of elections.

He asserted that the BJP is on track to achieve major victories in both Assam and West Bengal, stating that public sentiment has shifted in favour of the party after the initial phase of polling.

Addressing a press conference on April 25, Sarma said, "The first phase of elections has been completed. I can say with complete confidence that in the first phase itself, the BJP has won 110 seats. This time, we will win 100 seats in Assam. We will get 200 seats in West Bengal. We will reach a century in Assam, and we will reach a double century in West Bengal."

He further said the political atmosphere in West Bengal had changed significantly in favour of the BJP after the initial phase of polling.

"I can confidently say that the tsunami that has come if it goes above 200 (BJP seats in West Bengal), it will not be a matter of surprise. I have attended every election in West Bengal in 2016 and 2019, but this time, the public's attitude towards the BJP is something that we have never seen before," he added.

Sarma added that voters who were earlier uncertain were now openly backing the party.

"People have now started openly supporting the BJP. Those who were initially going to vote had a slight uncertainty in their mind. After the first phase of elections, there has been a change in the atmosphere here. People now strongly believe that BJP is going to win in West Bengal," he said.

Assembly Election Exit Polls 2026: Result on 4th May will be in favour of NDA in Bengal, says JDU MP Sanjay Kumar Jha
JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha said the feedback from West Bengal shows a "mood of change" among voters and added that the results to be declared on May 4 will be in favour of the NDA.

Speaking to the reporters in Patna, Jha said, "The feedback we are getting from West Bengal... tells us that there is a mood of change there. We started getting such signals after the first phase of voting... Today, the second phase of voting is ongoing. I think that the result which will come on 4th May will be in favour of NDA."

West Bengal recorded a voter turnout of 39.97 per cent until 11 am today, as polling for the 142 seats in the second phase of Assembly elections is underway.

According to the Election Commission of India, Purba Bardhaman stood at the top, with a voting percentage of 44.50 per cent, followed by Hooghly, which has witnessed 43.12 per cent polling until 11 am.

Kolkata North and Kolkata South recorded a voter turnout of 38.39 per cent and 36.78 per cent, respectively. Nadia also recorded a sizeable turnout of 40.34 per cent.

The main fight in West Bengal in the 2026 elections is between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP. Earlier in the day, West Bengal LoP Suvendu Adhikari inspected the polling booths in the Bhabanipur constituency. TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee cast his vote at the Mitra Institute polling booth in Bhabanipur.

Election Exit Poll Result 2026: West Bengal records sizeable voter turnout of 39.9% at 11 am in phase 2 of polling

West Bengal recorded a voter turnout of 39.97 per cent until 11 am on Wednesday, as polling for the 142 seats in the second phase of Assembly elections is underway.

Earlier in the day, West Bengal LoP Suvendu Adhikari inspected the polling booths in Bhabanipur constituency. TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee cast his vote at the Mitra Institute polling booth in Bhabanipur.

The second phase of the polling is widely seen as the 'litmus test' for the Trinamool Congress (TMC), as voting moves into the party's traditional fortresses in South Bengal and Kolkata.

The second phase covers 142 out of 294 seats in West Bengal. The total electorate is around 3.21 crore, with 1,64,35,627 men, 1,57,37,418 women and 792 transgender voters.

1,448 candidates are in the fray, including 220 women at 41,001 polling stations, with over 8,000 managed entirely by women.

While 142 seats are up for grabs, all eyes are on the 'Big Five' urban contests. Apart from the high-stakes seat of Bhabanipur, Tollyganj, the heart of the Bengali film industry, is a high-profile, star-studded battle.

In the 2021 elections, the TMC dominated this specific belt, winning 123 of these 142 seats. For the BJP, this phase is about making inroads into the urban "bhadralok" vote and the Matua community. For the TMC, it is about holding the line to ensure a fourth consecutive term for Mamata Banerjee.

The counting of votes will take place on May 4

Exit polls are usually released 30 minutes after polling ends in the final phase of an election. For the current assembly elections, projections are expected to start coming in after 6:30 pm, as per Election Commission rules.

The restriction is meant to ensure that voter behaviour is not influenced while polling is still underway. The Election Commission of India enforces this rule under Section 126A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

Publishing or broadcasting exit polls before the permitted time is prohibited and can attract legal action.

Assembly Election Exit Polls 2026: Highest-ever women voter turnout in Kerala, Assam and Puducherry
Women aced voter turnout in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry on April 9, not only recording their highest-ever polling percentage but also surpassing the male voter turnout in the two states and the Union territory.

A whopping 91.4% of the female electorate in Puducherry, 86.5% in Assam and 81.2% in Kerala voted. In comparison, the male voter turnout was 88.1% in Puducherry, 85.3% in Assam and 75.1% in Kerala.

The gender turnout gap was the widest in Kerala, at nearly 6 percentage points, as against 3.2 percentage points in Puducherry and just 1.1 percentage points in Assam. The enthusiastic participation by women electors pushed up the overall polling percentage across the three states/UT.

Most political parties have been targeting women electors in their manifesto promises. In Kerala, LDF has promised to raise women's participation in the workforce to 50%, while UDF has offered women free travel in state buses.

Actor Vijay Thalapathy has positioned himself as an alternative for the people in a state where politics, for a very long time, has revolved around the DMK and the AIADMK.

With its ideological differences with the NDA and political tussle with the DMK, TVK has emerged as a third option for Tamil voters by fielding candidates on all 234 seats.

Since 1967, these two parties have alternated regimes, keeping other parties in their respective alliances. However, the upcoming elections seem to be turning into a trifecta, as a considerable chunk of voters has chosen not to align with either of the Dravidian parties over the years.

With "dhul and pepa" echoing through the air and the fragrance of "kopou phool" heralding the arrival of spring and Bihu, Assam is also witnessing a parallel rise in political heat, as the state’s electoral battleground begins to intensify.

The battle is far from routine. It is a defining contest that could reshape the state’s political landscape, a test of whether the BJP can finally secure a majority on its own with a high-stakes face-off between Himanta Biswa Sarma and Gaurav Gogoi, and a campaign charged with emotive issues ranging from identity politics to the Zubeen Garg death probe.

At the heart of this election lies a deeper churn in Assam’s politics. The BJP is looking to consolidate its gains through governance, welfare outreach and its "jati, mati, bheti" plank, while the Congress is attempting a reset by projecting new leadership and stitching alliances to tap into anti-incumbency and social coalitions.

Adding a new layer to this contest are the post-delimitation realities, which have redrawn constituency boundaries and altered the electoral arithmetic, particularly in minority-dominated seats. These changes, alongside evolving voting patterns, make a look at past election trends crucial to understanding what lies ahead.

Assembly Election Exit Polls 2026: Bengal records 18.39% turnout in first two hours of voting in Phase 2
Around 18.39% of voters cast their ballots in the first two hours of polling in the second and final phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections, a senior Election Commission of India official said. Voting is being held across 142 constituencies.

Purba Bardhaman recorded the highest turnout at 20.86% by 9 am, followed by Hooghly (20.16%). Nadia saw 18.5% polling, while North 24 Parganas (17.81%), Kolkata Uttar (17.28%), South 24 Parganas (17.25%) and Kolkata Dakshin (16.81%) also reported steady participation.

Polling began at 7 am under tight security, with long queues seen across key districts including Kolkata, Howrah, Nadia and Hooghly. “Polling is underway peacefully, barring some minor incidents in certain areas. We have sought reports,” the official said.

A total of over 3.21 crore voters, including 1.64 crore men, 1.57 crore women and 792 third-gender voters, are eligible to vote in this phase across 41,001 polling stations, all equipped with webcasting facilities.

Opinion Polls 2026: How accurate are exit polls?
Exit polls are often debated for their reliability. While they proved largely accurate in the 2021 Tamil Nadu assembly elections, they fell short in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, where many projections missed the mark.

In 2021, the poll of polls had estimated around 160 seats for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led alliance and about 75 seats for the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam alliance.

The final results were strikingly close, the DMK-led alliance secured 159 seats, while the AIADMK-led coalition won 75. The DMK alone clinched a clear majority with 133 seats, marking its return to power after ten years.

Assembly Election Exit Polls 2026: Violence, vandalism reported during early hours of voting in Bengal
Incidents of violence and vandalism were reported from parts of West Bengal during the early hours of polling in Phase 2 of the Assembly elections on Wednesday, police said. The incidents were reported from Chapra, Shantipur, Nimtala and Bhangar, triggering tension in several areas as voting began.

A BJP polling agent was allegedly assaulted at a booth in Chapra in Nadia district. The injured person, identified as Mosharef Mir, was admitted to a hospital. BJP leaders accused workers of the ruling All India Trinamool Congress of carrying out the attack, a charge denied by the party.

In Shantipur, a BJP camp office was found vandalised, with furniture damaged, while in Bhangar, members of the Indian Secular Front alleged their polling agent was prevented from entering a booth.

“Agents' forms are being snatched and they are being thrown out... Women are not being allowed to vote. We placed agents so that everyone can vote,” ISF leader Arabul Islam told PTI.

Polling was also delayed at a booth in Nimtala, where voting had not begun even by 7:30 am, adding to unrest among voters.

Exit Poll Results 2026: Puducherry records historic turnout, highest since 1964
Puducherry witnessed a record-breaking voter turnout, with polling crossing previous peaks to reach around 89.87%, the highest since the Union Territory’s first assembly election in 1964, officials said.

Voting across all 30 constituencies, including Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam, remained largely peaceful barring a minor clash in Tirukanoor village.

The election saw a multi-cornered contest, with the NDA aiming to retain power against a Congress-led opposition, while new players like Vijay’s TVK and Seeman’s NTK added to the contest.

Among the important contestants are the AINRC leader and Chief Minister N Rangasamy, who is facing a challenge from the Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee president and Lok Sabha MP V Vaithilingam in the Thattanchavady constituency.

The CM is also contesting from the Mangalam seat. Leader of opposition in the outgoing Assembly, DMK's R Siva, is fighting from Villianur constituency, where M Ravikumar of AINRC is one of his rivals in the multi-cornered contest.

The assembly poll held in 1974 recorded 85.33 per cent of polling while the polls held in 2006 and 2011 to the territorial Assembly recorded 85.29 per cent and 85.57 per cent polling respectively.

Voting took place in 1,099 polling stations with webcasting amenities and of them, 209 were under special watch as they were classified as vulnerable, and a total of 294 candidates are fighting polls, which included 40 women candidates and 117 independents.

Authorities said around 5,000 officials and 2,800 police personnel were deployed to ensure smooth and peaceful polling.

The Union Territory's electorate is 9.50 lakh strong, and there are 23 Assembly segments in the Puducherry region, 5 in Karaikal and 1 each in Mahe and Yanam enclaves, and in total, territorial Assembly has 30 seats.

Election Opinion Polls 2026: Assam assembly poll turnout nears 86%; central Assam sees sharpest rise
Assam recorded a sharp rise in voter participation in the 2026 assembly elections, with turnout climbing to 85.9% in the latest update by the Election Commission of India. This is the highest turnout in the state’s history, surpassing 84.67% in 2016 and 82.04% in 2021.

However, the increase was not uniform across regions. The strongest surge was seen in central Assam. Although it has fewer seats than lower or upper Assam, the jump in turnout here is politically significant and could influence the overall outcome.

Lower Assam, excluding the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), holds the largest share of seats in the state. A roughly four-percentage-point rise in turnout here carries the biggest numerical impact and could play a decisive role in determining the balance of power.

The BTR also recorded a notable increase. With 15 seats, even a moderate rise in turnout can affect coalition equations, and the four-point jump suggests consolidation among local political forces.

North Bank saw moderate growth, while upper Assam, despite having one of the highest seat counts recorded the lowest increase in turnout. The hill districts, which have a smaller number of seats, also saw limited growth.

In the state’s Muslim-majority belt, comprising 10 districts, turnout rose by an average of 4.7 percentage points compared to 2021. Sribhumi district recorded the sharpest increase, followed by Darrang and Morigaon, with Barpeta also showing strong gains.

Bongaigaon and Dhubri posted solid improvements, with Dhubri’s rise being especially significant given its large electorate. Nagaon also saw an important increase, as it remains a politically sensitive district.

In contrast, Goalpara and South Salmara registered moderate growth, while Hailakandi saw little to no change in voter turnout.

Exit Poll Results 2026: Bengal nears 92% record turnout in Phase 1; Tamil Nadu logs over 84% voting
West Bengal recorded a near 92% voter turnout in the first phase of assembly elections, marking one of the highest participation levels in the state, while Tamil Nadu saw over 84% polling, its highest-ever turnout on April 23.

In West Bengal, voting was held across 152 constituencies amid sporadic incidents of violence, but with strong voter mobilisation and long queues at polling booths, especially in rural areas. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said the 91.78% turnout was the state’s “highest-ever percentage since Independence.”

The high turnout came despite controversy over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which saw over 91 lakh names deleted, an issue that has become a major political flashpoint between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the ruling All India Trinamool Congress.

The BJP is aiming to unseat chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who is seeking a fourth straight term, while the party has never governed the state. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also reviewed poll arrangements during the voting period.

Security remained tight, with around 2,450 central paramilitary companies nearly 2.5 lakh personnel deployed, and over 8,000 polling stations marked as highly sensitive. The Election Commission described polling as “largely peaceful” despite reports of clashes and allegations of intimidation.

In Tamil Nadu, polling for all 234 Assembly seats was conducted in a single phase. The contest is mainly between the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. Chief Minister M. K. Stalin is seeking another term, while Edappadi K. Palaniswami is attempting a comeback.

Regional players like Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and Seeman’s party have also added momentum to the contest. The sharp rise in turnout in both states highlights a highly engaged electorate, setting the stage for closely watched results.

Assembly Election Exit Polls 2026: Women voting in big way to teach opposition a lesson, says PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that women came out in large numbers to vote in the assembly elections in five states/UTs to teach a lesson to “pariwarvaadi” (dynastic) opposition parties, which were against the entry of more women into legislative bodies.

Addressing an all-woman convention, ‘Nari Shakti Vandan’, in his parliamentary constituency, he said: “We have seen in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu that sisters have cast record votes. The parties opposing women’s reservation have no idea that this vote of the sisters was to punish these anti-women parties.”

The PM assured women that he will leave no stone unturned to ensure that their right to reservation in legislative bodies is implemented, as he slammed the opposition parties for joining hands to defeat the Constitution amendment bill on women’s reservation.

Parties rooted in dynastic politics feared losing their grip on power if more women from the grassroots entered electoral politics, he said, adding: “Parties doing politics of ‘pariwarvaad’ and appeasement consider the rise of women in law-making bodies in greater numbers as the biggest threat to their existence.”
Citing the construction of the new Parliament building as proof of his govt’s intention “to fulfil our commitment” to giving a 33% quota to women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies, Modi said, “The first bill we tabled in the new Parliament building was also the same, and it was passed.”

When the time came to execute that, family-centric parties like Congress, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress and DMK, “like the past 40 years”, came together to prevent women from emerging as decisionmakers, the PM said.

Mixing Bhojpuri with Hindi, Modi said, “Women are the keys in making a family, society and country, but they are still told — ‘tu ka karbu, tu chup raha, tose na ho payi, ka jaroorat hao’ (What will you do? You sit silently, you will not be able to do, what is the need?).”

Assembly Election Exit Polls 2026: West Bengal votes in final phase; all eyes on Mamata vs BJP
West Bengal, the largest among the five poll-bound states and the only one yet to complete voting, is drawing intense attention as counting is set for May 4. Even before that, focus has shifted to exit polls, which will begin coming in from the evening of April 29, after 6.30 pm as per Election Commission rules.

After a record turnout of nearly 93% in Phase 1, the state has moved into Phase 2, the final and decisive round, with voting underway in 142 constituencies. This phase covers the remaining seats of the 294-member Assembly, making it critical in shaping the final outcome.

Polling began at 7 am amid unprecedented security arrangements, with voters lining up across key districts including Kolkata, Howrah, North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Hooghly and Purba Bardhaman, regions that form the political core of the state. Voting will continue till 6 pm.

Most of the constituencies in this phase are considered strongholds of chief minister Mamata Banerjee, but the Bharatiya Janata Party is making an aggressive push to expand its presence in these areas.

One of the most closely watched contests is in Bhabanipur, Mamata Banerjee’s bastion, where she faces a strong challenge from BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari.

Other prominent candidates in the fray include Chandrima Bhattacharya, Shashi Panja and Aroop Biswas from the Trinamool Congress, while the BJP has fielded leaders such as Swapan Dasgupta and Rupa Ganguly.

Election Exit Poll Result 2026: Tamil Nadu set for verdict; exit polls to offer early clues in tight contest
The stage is set for a high-stakes verdict in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, with results for all 234 constituencies to be announced on May 4 following polling on April 23.

With counting yet to begin, attention has now turned to exit polls, which are expected to give early signals of voter preferences in what is shaping up to be a closely fought election.

The main contest is between the DMK-led alliance and the AIADMK-led front. Chief Minister M. K. Stalin is seeking a second consecutive term, while Edappadi K. Palaniswami is aiming to bring the AIADMK back to power after five years.

Tamil Nadu’s political landscape continues to be dominated by Dravidian parties, with national players in supporting roles. The Bharatiya Janata Party is contesting in alliance with the AIADMK, while the Indian National Congress remains aligned with the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

The AIADMK, which last won the state in 2016 under J. Jayalalithaa, has struggled to regain its footing after her death, with leadership shifts involving O. Panneerselvam and Palaniswami reshaping the party’s direction.

Adding a new dimension to the contest is actor-turned-politician Vijay, whose party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, has drawn large crowds and heightened interest in the election.

Tamil Nadu recorded around 4.87 crore votes, reflecting strong voter participation across the state. The turnout could prove decisive, especially in closely contested seats.

Exit Poll Results 2026: EC imposes ban on exit polls for assembly polls in five states till April 29
The Election Commission had earlier said that exit polls for the assembly elections of five states can neither be held nor disseminated from 7 am on April 9 till 6:30 pm on April 29 .

The poll body said that conducting or broadcasting exit polls in the period is violative of section 126A of the Representation of People Act, 1951 and is punishable with imprisonment up to a period of two years, or with a fine or both."

This is a standard measure aimed at ensuring free and fair elections and preventing exit poll data from influencing voters while polling is still underway.

Exit Poll Results 2026: What are exit polls? When and where to watch exit polls?
Exit polls for the Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, West Bengal and Puducherry assembly elections will be released after 6:30 pm on April 29, in line with guidelines set by the Election Commission of India. The poll panel mandates that exit poll results can only be published 30 minutes after voting ends in the final phase.

These projections will be broadcast across major TV news channels and digital platforms soon after the embargo is lifted.

Exit polls are surveys conducted with voters immediately after they cast their ballots. Unlike opinion polls, which measure voter mood before elections, exit polls are based on actual responses from voters about whom they voted for, offering an early indication of possible results.
Exit Poll Results 2026 Live Updates: With the final phase of the West Bengal assembly elections concluding, attention has shifted to exit polls, due after 6.30 pm on April 29 as per Election Commission of India rules. High voter turnout across West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry has heightened expectations ahead of counting on May 4, with closely fought contests in several states.

According to Election Commission guidelines, exit polls are strictly prohibited until 30 minutes after polling ends in the final phase. Bengal recorded a historic 93.2% turnout in the first phase of assembly elections, while Tamil Nadu's final provisional figure settled at 85.1% after a marginal revision, EC data showed.

In Assam, polling for all 126 seats concluded with a final and historic turnout of 85.9% surpassing its previous high, while Puducherry witnessed 89.83% voter participation, also a record. Kerala reported a turnout of 78.03%.
