JNU live updates: Delhi Police take cognizance of social media post in which a poster reading 'Kashmir Azaad' was seen at a college protest

BJP on Monday dubbed the violence on JNU campus as the handiwork of Leftists. “There is a motley group of Left-leaning activists drawn from art, literature and Bollywood, lapsed academicians and failed politicians, who can’t win a municipal poll but are ideological mercenaries. Delhi Police has filed a FIR against JNUSU President Aishe Ghosh and 19 others(name not in accused column but in detail list) for attacking security guards and vandalizing server room on January 4. The complaint was filed by JNU administration. FIR was registered on January 5.

Eminent economist and JNU professor C P Chandrasekhar on Monday said he had withdrawn from the newly-constituted 28-member Standing Committee on Statistics (SCES) citing the situation in the university. Read full story

A day after the JNU violence, Congress distanced itself from a person who was posting messages on a WhatsApp group allegedly involved in planning the attack. A Google search mentioned the phone number as that of a vendor hired by Congress.

Delhi Police are now analysing the call detail records and the centralised authorisation file IDs of the phone numbers visible in several screenshots, which came into social media circulation on Sunday evening. A few groups — Friends of RSS, Left Terror down-down, Unity against Left, MA Sociology and Core Group — are at the centre of the row.
