Violence engulfs Manipur

Violence in Manipur escalated on Monday, with one protester killed and six others losing their lives in separate incidents as clashes between security forces and civilians intensified. After the NPP withdrew its support from the 60-member Manipur assembly, MLAs from the Naga People's Front (NPF) and the BJP arrived at Chief Minister N. Biren Singh's residence.

Indefinite curfew

An indefinite curfew has been imposed in violence-hit Imphal West and Imphal East districts due to deteriorating law and order situation. Internet services have also been suspended after fresh protests erupted against the killing of six people, whose bodies were found in Jiribam after they were kidnapped allegedly by militants.

Residences of political leaders attacked

Protesters in Imphal attacked the homes of two ministers and three MLAs, demanding justice for three individuals murdered in Jiribam. In response, the Imphal West administration imposed indefinite prohibitory orders. Demonstrators also assembled outside BJP legislator RK Imo's residence, who is chief minister N Biren Singh's son-in-law.

NIA steps in for investigation

The Ministry of home affairs directed security forces to take necessary steps to restore peace in Manipur amid ongoing violence. Describing the situation as "fragile," the MHA warned of strict action against violent activities. Key cases have been transferred to the NIA for thorough investigation.

Amit Shah holds high level meeting

Union home minister Amit Shah held a high-level meeting with senior officials to assess the security situation in Manipur. As a result, the central government decided to deploy an additional 50 companies (over 5,000 personnel) of the Central Armed Police Forces. The meeting followed Shah’s cancellation of election rallies in Maharashtra to prioritize the crisis in Manipur.

Congress demands Shah's resignation

The Congress party called on PM Modi to visit Manipur before the Parliament session and meet with local leaders, political parties, and affected citizens. They also demanded the resignation of home minister Amit Shah and chief minister N Biren Singh, citing the failure of the "double engine government" since May 2023.

Meiteis protest in Silchar

Hundreds of Meiteis, led by the Assam Manipuri Coordination Committee, protested in Silchar against the kidnapping and killing of six people, including three women and children, in Manipur's Jiribam district. The demonstrators held a candlelight vigil near the Khudiram Bose statue, condemning the incident and refusing to accept the bodies until justice is served.

1. Solution: Massively increase the forces in Manipur. 2: Warn anyone of any community sending Whatsapp or Social media messages to stop. Arrest if they dont. 3: Warn all people, whether carrying licensed guns or long swords or any weapon to deposit them in the local Police station. Execute anyone carrying any weapons including sticks after this warning. 4: Declare the Area as disturbed and warn any person there to not block the roads or gather in any manner. Shoot to kill anyone of any community not heeding these warnings.
