NEW DELHI: Economic reforms popped up in Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class X social studies examination on Wednesday. ‘‘The topic of liberalisation is there in the social studies book. The new economic policy of 1991 can be considered as the demarcation line between the pre- and post-reform era, most developments in the area have taken place 1997 onwards,’’ said N Saroj, a social science teacher at Tagore International, Vasant Vihar.
Though it seemed to have been mostly smiles and cheer all the way on day one, students said there was slight confusion on the last question over the map to be used.

‘‘The map was not perforated and there were some questions for the blind students on the back. We didn’t know if we were supposed to tear it from the question paper or not,’’ said one student of Sanskriti school.
CBSE officials said instructions were clearly mentioned and the few queries received were immediately addressed to. ‘‘A few schools did ring up to confirm the procedure to be followed with the map. We immediately clarified the instructions once again,’’ said CBSE controller of examinations, Pavnesh Kumar.
