New Delhi calls for peace in West Asia, asks Indians to exit Iran
NEW DELHI: The government expressed regret over renewed attacks in West Asia, saying the latest developments are of utmost concern to the international community.
In a statement, ministry of external affairs (MEA) also called on all parties to immediately de-escalate tensions, ensure that civilians are not harmed and conclude ongoing negotiations for a diplomatic solution so that peace and stability can return to the region.
“This conflict has now lasted over 100 days and has already caused immense human suffering. It has also had a debilitating impact on the global economy and energy supplies,” the government said.
After fresh military strikes, India also reiterated its warning to Indian nationals in Iran to avoid any travel to the country and exit the region by available means of transport.
“In view of the latest developments in the region, the Embassy reiterates its earlier advice to all Indian nationals to avoid any travel to Iran,” the advisory stated on X. “Indian nationals presently in Iran are also advised to exit the country by available means of transport,” it said.
Israel on Monday launched airstrikes targeting central and western Iran in response to missile fire from Tehran.
On April 7, India issued an advisory asking Indians in Iran to stay wherever they are for the next 48 hours. The advisory was issued after US President Donald Trump had warned that a “whole civilisation will die tonight” if Iran does not end its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
