Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam chief Vijay has emerged as a decisive force in Tamil Nadu on Monday. Party workers celebrated leads in 103 seats across the state, playing Vijay’s ‘whistle podu’ song and mimicking the party symbol in jubilant scenes. Vijay is leading from the Tiruchirappalli (East) constituency by a margin of over 3,000 votes. Party leader V S Babu is also emerging as a potential giant killer, leading in Kolathur by more than 2,551 votes against Chief Minister M K Stalin at the time of writing.

In the opening round of counting, TVK candidate Lakshmanan has taken a clear lead.
Initial trends from the counting of postal ballots in Tamil Nadu indicate that the incumbent DMK is on course to retain power under chief minister and party president M K Stalin. In several constituencies, the DMK was leading, followed closely by the main opposition All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, according to television reports.
The fledgling TVK was ahead in a number of constituencies, while the Naam Tamilar Katchi, led by Tamil nationalist Seeman, was yet to make a clear impact in the race.
