JAMMU: A major tragedy was averted when a grenade thrown by militants to blow up a security picket did not explode in Doda in Jammu and Kashmir.

JAMMU: A major tragedy was averted when a grenade thrown by militants to blow up a security picket did not explode in Doda town of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said on Monday.
A militant, identified as Maqsood Ahmed, along with his associates, threw a grenade on a security picket in Shah Mohalla area to blow up the picket on Sunday night, they said.

The grenade hit the wall of the picket and did not explode, they said adding quick action team of police retaliated an fired a few rounds. The militants, however, managed to escape from the spot.
The grenade was later defused by the bomb disposal squad, they said adding searches are being conducted to trace the militant and his associates responsible for the act.
