Why is Valentine's Day celebrated?

Valentine's Day is celebrated on February 14th each year to honor Saint Valentine, a third-century Roman saint associated with love and affection. The day's origins are rooted in both Christian and ancient Roman traditions, eventually evolving into a celebration of romantic love during the Middle Ages. It gained popularity in the 18th century when the exchange of handwritten notes, called valentines, became common practice. Today, Valentine's Day is celebrated worldwide as a time to express love and appreciation for romantic partners, family, and friends through gestures such as gifts, cards, flowers, and romantic dinners.
