Crown, couture, and Christmas

The British Royal Family has released their annual Christmas portraits that scream holiday love, and we’re literally in happy tears. Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, shared a happy family picture surrounded by greenery, featuring Harry, the Duke of Sussex, and their two children. On the other hand, the heir to the British throne, Prince William, and his wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales, also shared a family portrait which included lush greens with blooming daisies. Let’s decode their outfits and poses from the different parts of the world.

The Sussexes’ adorable family outing

In the picture, Meghan Markle is seen bending down in a flowy white maxi dress and holding hands with Princess Lilibet, who is wearing a light blue striped dress. Whereas Prince Archie can be seen happily hugging his father in casual jeans and a beige cardigan featuring black elbow patches. Harry, on the other hand, is almost twinning with his son and was seen in a white shirt with denim jeans. The royal family, with big smiles, was seen standing on a small wooden bridge in a dense forest.

Surrounded by spring daffodils

Only a day prior, the heir to the British throne, Prince William, and his wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales, shared a family portrait captured by photographer Josh Shinner in Norfolk in April. In the image, William is seen in a collared blue shirt layered with an olive green crew-neck oversized cardigan and blue denim jeans. Catherine is seen sitting beside her in a white tucked-in shirt with an oversized black sweater and matching pants. Their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, were all seen twinning with their parents in black, white, and olive green.

Bow down to King Charles and Queen Camilla

Earlier this month, King Charles and Queen Camilla released their fourth Christmas portrait since the prince was named the King of England. They chose a photograph of themselves taken in Rome, where the King was seen in a blue suit with a white shirt and printed tie, and alongside him Queen Camilla was standing in an off-white fit-and-flare sophisticated knee-length dress with graceful black stockings and a lily of the valley brooch, which is a symbol of enduring love.

Are the British Royal Family’s annual Christmas portraits a yearly tradition?

The release of an annual official Christmas portrait by the British Royal Family is not a formal, mandatory requirement, but it is a long-standing tradition cherished by the royal family for ages. This tradition has been consistently observed for decades, where Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip usually sent around 750 Christmas cards every year, which featured a family photo. This custom has thus followed without fail since then.
