Ticking of the second's hand

The second hand always gives away the legitimacy of a Rolex watch. In its mechanical Rolex movements, the second hand appears smooth in movement whereas being in a ticking motion. If you can hear the slight ticking of a fake Rolex movement then understand that it is a fake Rolex.

The story of Rolex

Rolex was founded by Hans Wilsdorf, a visionary entrepreneur with a passion for precision timekeeping and innovation. In 1905, at the age of 24, Wilsdorf established the company in London, England, initially under the name "Wilsdorf & Davis." Determined to create wristwatches that were both elegant and reliable, Wilsdorf focused on developing timepieces that could withstand the rigors of everyday life while maintaining exceptional accuracy. In 1919, the company relocated to Geneva, Switzerland, where it adopted the name "Rolex" and solidified its reputation as a leader in luxury watchmaking. Throughout its illustrious history, Rolex has continued to push the boundaries of horological excellence, pioneering advancements such as the waterproof Oyster case and the self-winding Perpetual movement, cementing its status as an iconic symbol of precision, craftsmanship, and timeless elegance.

The mechanical movements

If you can get an insightful picture of the movement, then it should be mechanical manual-wind movement like the Cellini collection or the self-winding automatic movements including in the Rolex Kermit. There have been a handful of quartz models as well which remained in production for approximately 25 years based under the collection with a fake opting for Day-Date or Datejust movements.

Always check the weight

If you will be able to witness the watch in person before purchasing, then feel it in your hands. Rolex watches are mainly of stainless steel compared to precious metals and have a good weight to them. If it is a fake then the bracelet weight would be average in comparison to the main dials weight.

Material

Rolex only uses the best materials for their watches. Lesser authentic material would weigh less than the authentic Rolex watches while they might scratch more easily than they would be a fake. From the shadowing to the reflections of the surface materials of the watch would easily indicate whether it is a real or fake Rolex.

The crown marking

You will see the crown marking or symbol on the dial, whereas to set the timings, the crown comes with a cross. In recent models, the cross is still there with bards and dots underneath it, which symbolizes the watch being a twin or trip lock crown. If you are not able to see the white gold crown features with a small dot between two larger ones then it is a fake Rolex.
