Summer Fashion Essentials: Designers Decode The Season’s Biggest Style Must-Haves
Breathable Fabrics Take Centre Stage
One of the biggest summer essentials this season is prioritising fabrics that allow movement and airflow. Designers believe comfort is no longer separate from style — the two now go hand in hand.Echoing a similar thought, Mariyam Khatri, Founder and Creative Director of BANANA Labs, notes that summer dressing begins with understanding the weather. “For me, summer dressing always comes back to one simple thing — letting your skin breathe. Cottons, muls, linens, anything that moves with the heat rather than against it naturally become essentials,” she explains, adding that whites remain timeless summer staples because they “feel like an exhale.”
Stuti Dhanuka, Founder of Terra Luna, also highlights how fabrics like khadi and linen have become key wardrobe investments this season due to their ability to balance structure with comfort.
Fluid Silhouettes And Relaxed Tailoring Rule The Season
This summer, restrictive fashion is taking a backseat as relaxed silhouettes dominate wardrobes. Designers are leaning towards clothing that feels softer, freer, and easier to wear through the day.Designer Siddhartha Bansal believes summer dressing is rooted in “lightness.” “Fabrics like cotton and chanderi that move with air create a sense of quiet ease. Silhouettes stay fluid and nonchalant, allowing the body to exist freely within them,” he shares.
For men especially, relaxed trousers are becoming an important summer essential. Stuti Dhanuka points out that softer structured trousers are gradually replacing heavier denims this season. Paired with lightweight shirts in subtle prints and easy colours, the focus is now on pieces that transition seamlessly from work meetings to dinners and even weekend getaways.
Prints, Florals And Playful Colour Stories Dominate
Summer fashion this year is also embracing a more expressive and playful side through colour and print.According to Siddhartha Bansal, summer is the season where instinctive styling works best. “Florals, unexpected palettes, and a certain romance in the way pieces come together make summer dressing expressive without trying too hard,” he says.
Nanki Maggo Papneja, Founder of Limerick, believes spring-summer wardrobes should feel “fresh, versatile, and true to your personal style.” She explains that while comfort becomes important during warmer months, individuality should still shine through via prints, textures, and relaxed tailoring.
Coastalcore Is Emerging As A Major Trend
Among the standout trends this season is the rise of coastal-inspired fashion, often referred to as “coastalcore.”The trend embraces a relaxed holiday aesthetic while still feeling fashion-forward. Coastal-inspired jewellery, textured bags, shell detailing, and handcrafted accessories are increasingly being incorporated into everyday city wardrobes as well.
Less Overstyling, More Personal Expression
Designers unanimously agree that summer fashion today is moving away from excessive styling and toward intentional simplicity. From oversized sunglasses and scarves to artisanal handcrafted details, subtle additions are being used to elevate otherwise minimal outfits.
Tailoring Gets Softer And More Summer-Friendly
Summer tailoring is also undergoing a noticeable transformation this season, with designers moving away from rigid structures toward lighter, more relaxed forms of luxury dressing.“The focus is on garments that feel lighter, softer, and more fluid without losing the essence of refined tailoring,” the brand shares.
Structured occasionwear is also evolving to suit changing lifestyles and weather conditions. Unstructured blazers, half-lined jackets, relaxed trousers, tailored shackets, and lightweight bandhgalas are emerging as key wardrobe staples for men looking to balance polish with practicality.
