Food swaps to relieve constipation

Low fiber intake, dehydration, and lack of physical activity often result in constipation and other digestion-related issues. It further gets complicated due to modern lifestyle habits of indulging in processed foods, stress, and long hours of sitting. While managing stress and maintaining consistent meal and sleep schedules can help bring a long-term change, experts feel that adding a few remedies to a daily routine can also bring a good change. In a recent post on Instagram, celebrity nutritionist Shweta Shah shared smart swaps for constipation that can help with instant relief. Her post reads, "These simple swaps can lubricate, cleanse & support your gut naturally—no harsh tricks, just Ayurvedic wisdom." Scroll down to read the remedies.

2/5

Ghee water over jeera water

As per Shweta, jeera water is excellent for digestion, but it should be avoided when constipated. She suggests consuming ghee water, as it lubricates the intestines and softens the stool.

3/5

Prunes over Isabgol

In her post, Shweta has explained that Isabgol can give short-term relief but can lead to bloating or dry intestines. Solution? She recommends consuming prunes, which are natural laxative and are gentle on the gut too.

4/5

Papaya over Pomegranate

While pomegranate's fiber content can bind stools, it also slows digestion. She recommends having papaya for smooth bowel movement and getting long term relief from constipation.

5/5

Castor Oil water over milk

As per her post, milk consumption can block channels and slow digestion. She recommends having 1/2 tsp castor oil in warm water before bedtime, as it helps with colon cleansing. Additionally, following this with a light, fiber-rich dinner and staying hydrated can enhance digestive flow, support regular bowel movements, and gently detoxify the system overnight, promoting a feeling of lightness and improved metabolism by morning.
