Kitchen hacks to make garlic-peeling easier

There is something about the aroma of garlic that can spruce up the flavours of any kind of dish in an instant. From stir-fries and noodles to curries and pasta, garlic is an unmissable part of a large variety of dishes. Not just taste, garlic also brings along a number of health benefits with itself. Garlic might be a super flavourful vegetable but peeling it is not a cakewalk. Peeling garlic is not only messy but also takes a lot of time. Here are some super easy and non-messy ways to peel garlic cloves in a jiffy. (image credits- istock)

2/5

Microwave technique

  • Take a whole garlic bulb and put it in the microwave.
  • Set the timer for 30 seconds.
  • Take out the garlic bulb and rub it between your hands gently.
  • Separate the garlic pods from one another and remove the extra peels.
  • Now take one garlic clove and remove the peel using your hands.
  • You will notice how easily the peel will get removed after microwaving it first.

3/5

Shaking technique

  • Roughly separate all the garlic cloves from one another and add them to a bowl.
  • Now cover the bowl with a lid.
  • Hold both sides of the bowl firmly and shake the bowl for a few seconds.
  • Open the lid and check whether the peels have separated or not.
  • If not, close the lid again and give a good shake, a few more times.
  • This technique will help you in separating the peel from the garlic without much efforts.
4/5

Crushing technique

  • Crushing is another easy technique that will help you remove the peel in an instant.
  • The only drawback of crushing the garlic is that it doesn’t retain the shape, which means that it can’t be used in recipes that require garlic to be of a specific shape or size.
  • Take one garlic pod and place a knife horizontally on it.
  • Now just use your palm to put pressure on the knife and crush it.
  • Once crushed, just separate the peel from the garlic clove.

5/5

Hot water technique

  • Firstly, collect the garlic pods in a bowl.
  • Add boiling hot water to the bowl and leave it aside for about 30 minutes.
  • After 30 minutes, take out the cloves and drain the excess water.
  • Just peel the cloves now and you’ll notice how easily the peel comes off.
  • The hot water loosens the grip of the peel from the garlic, making peeling a much easier task.
