5 Diabetic-friendly foods to eat on an empty stomach

Struggling with diabetes can be tough as striking the right balance between eating healthy and stating hunger pangs may seem like a daunting task. One of the most confusing things in diabetes is 'what to eat' especially in the morning as how you start your day can decide the fate of your health. Here are certain foods that diabetic-friendly and can be easily added to the morning regime./

Chia Seed Water

Chia seeds are high in fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and protein. When soaked in water, they form a gel-like consistency that slows the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream. This makes them an ideal early-morning option for people with diabetes. Soak 1 tablespoon of chia seeds in a glass of water overnight. Drink it first thing in the morning or add it to a small smoothie with low-GI fruits.

3/6

Curd

Plain Greek yogurt or homemade curd is full of probiotics, protein, and calcium. The protein helps slow down glucose absorption, while probiotics support gut health, which is increasingly being linked to better blood sugar regulation.

Avoid flavored yogurts, they often contain added sugars. Stick to plain, unsweetened versions and consider adding a pinch of cinnamon for extra benefits.

Green Apple or Guava

Fruits can be tricky for diabetics, but low-GI options like green apples and guavas are excellent in moderation. These fruits are rich in fiber and vitamin C, which help with blood sugar control and reduce inflammation.Have one small green apple or half a guava in the morning. Eat it whole (not juiced), with the skin on for maximum fiber content. Pair it with a few nuts if you want extra satiety.

Methi

Fenugreek seeds are well-known in the diabetic community for their blood sugar-lowering effects. They contain soluble fiber that slows digestion and improves the body’s use of sugar. Soak 1 teaspoon of fenugreek seeds in water overnight. In the morning, drink the water (and chew the seeds if you can). This can help manage fasting blood sugar levels and boost metabolism.
