Importance of Omega-3-rich foods

Omega-3s are said to offer a range of health benefits. From heart to brain, and from eyes to skin, they are helpful in boosting almost every body function and that is the reason, it is said to focus on the right amount of Omega-3 in the body. The essential Omega-3 fats—specifically ALA (alpha-linolenic acid alpha-linolenic acid) EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid)—are especially important for our bodies because they cannot be synthesised naturally. Instead, they need to be obtained through dietary sources. As per the National Institute of Health, ALA is an essential fatty acid, meaning that your body can’t make it, so you must get it from the foods and beverages you consume. And the recommended amount of ALA for men is 1.6 g and for women, it is 1.1 g. This piece of information talks about vegetarian sources of omega-3 that can help you lead a longer and healthier life.

Chia Seeds

As per experts, chia seeds are one of the best plant-based sources of Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which is essential for heart, brain, and overall health. Omega-3s from chia seeds help reduce inflammation, lower bad cholesterol (LDL), and support brain function. They also promote healthy skin, strong joints, and improved digestion due to their high fiber content. It is said that pairing chia seeds with walnuts, flaxseeds or seaweed can maximise its benefits.

Walnuts

They are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, specifically alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which keeps the heart and brain healthy. They are also said to reduce bad cholesterol (LDL) and lower inflammation. Also, walnuts are packed with antioxidants, fiber, and healthy fats, making them ideal for digestion and weight management.

4/7

Soybean

Soybeans are also packed with alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). Omega-3 in soybeans help reduce inflammation, lower bad cholesterol (LDL), and support brain function. Also, they are a rich source of plant protein, fiber, and essential vitamins that promote muscle growth, digestion, and bone health.

Hemp Seeds

The ideal balance of Omega-3 to Omega-6 in hemp seeds helps reduce inflammation, improve heart health, and support brain function. They are also rich in high-quality protein, fiber, and essential minerals like magnesium and iron, promoting muscle growth, digestion, and energy levels.

Brussels Sprouts

As compared to nuts and seeds, ALA level of brussel sprouts is lower, but it also provides heart-protective benefits by helping to reduce inflammation, lower bad cholesterol (LDL), and support brain function.
