Ayurveda suggested superfoods for detoxification

Superfoods are the nutrient-rich foods which are an excellent choice for a daily diet as they offer a multitude of health benefits. According to Ayurveda, the ultimate detoxification is achieved by balancing the doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha), the basic functional elements of the body. Eating nutritious and compatible food is essential for maintaining mental and physical well-being. Here are the top 7 superfoods recommended by Ayurveda: Indian gooseberry, Milk, Black grapes, Green gram, Ghee, Ash gourd and Honey.

Indian Gooseberry

Ayurveda considers adding all six tastes to our daily diet and Amalaki, known as Indian Gooseberry has five tastes in it, making it an excellent addition to a balanced diet. It is rich in fibre content, enhances skin health and cleanses the body by eliminating toxins.

3/8

Milk

Milk, especially cow's milk, is an excellent source of energy and is enlivening. Milk is a true elixir of life. It is a mild laxative and is a natural detoxifying agent. It is revered for its ability to enhance physical strength, foster virility, boost intelligence and memory, and strengthen bones. This nutrient-rich drink is packed with essential proteins, minerals, and vitamins.

4/8

Black Grapes

Among fruits, Draksha or black-seeded grapes are considered the best in Ayurveda. Their natural cooling property is good for the eyes and is aphrodisiac. They also help to improve metabolism, promoting the elimination of wastes from the body.

5/8

Green Gram

Green gram is excellent among pulses and a rich source of proteins, carbohydrates, fibre, and minerals. It is excellent for reducing body weight and in conditions like diarrhoea, vomiting, IBS, etc.

6/8

Ghee

Ghee produced from the butter derived from curd, is the ideal form of ghee and does not significantly impact lipid levels. It contains healthy fats, vitamins, and antioxidants. Consuming ghee elevates the body's vital energy or Ojus. It is recommended for children as it nourishes and aids in their physical, mental, and intellectual development. In middle age, ghee helps maintain physical vigour, enthusiasm, and strength. In old age, it rejuvenates the body, slows degeneration, and improves digestion and memory.

7/8

Ash Gourd

According to Ayurveda, the Ash gourd, known as Kushmanda, is the best fruit from creepers due to its exceptional nutritional and medicinal benefits. It is easy to digest, acts as a natural coolant, thereby reducing pitta and alleviates body heat. This is rich in fibre and vitamins, provides nourishment while improving memory and intelligence.

8/8

Honey

Honey is excellent for the eyes, reduces body fat and kapha. It is rich in nutrients and antioxidants. It is antibacterial and offers numerous health benefits when taken orally like obesity, dyspnoea, cough and also used topically to improve skin texture, burns, wound healing etc. It removes the toxins from the body and possesses a lower glycaemic index compared to sugar, making it suitable for individuals with diabetes.

By incorporating these foods in your daily routine, you can enhance your body's natural digestive fire, promoting a complete and thorough detoxification process.
