Nutritional value of banana chips

The sound of banana slices falling into hot oil tempts you? But before leaping into the shop to grab a pack of ‘fresh and crispy’ chips, have you ever wondered about the nutritional value of those banana chips?

Bananas are a nutritious food rich in potassium and fibre, which are fried or dehydrated to make banana chips. The thing about banana chips is that you get almost all the minerals and vitamins that are there in the fresh fruit.

2/8

Fibre

There are 2 grams of fibre in a 1-ounce serving of banana chips. Fiber keeps your digestive system working properly, which can cut your chance of constipation. Eating a diet rich in fiber might also lower your risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

3/8

Potassium

One ounce of banana chips supplies 152 milligrams of potassium. Potassium is a mineral that promotes a normal heartbeat and proper muscle function. The mineral also plays a role in the health of your digestive system and skeleton.

4/8

Magnesium

Snacking on banana chips means you'll get some nutritional value for your calorie investment. The chips are a good source of some essential vitamins, especially magnesium. Your body needs magnesium for energy production, cell-to-cell communication and DNA synthesis. A serving of banana chips will net you 32 milligrams of magnesium.

5/8

Source of energy

Banana chips can keep your body fueled up between meals, but it also means that eating large portions of banana chips can trigger weight gain.

While the store bought chips are calorie dense and are not ideal for those who are trying to lose weight, you can make them healthier if you plan to prepare them yourself. You can deep fry them using a healthy cooking oil or bake them in the oven. Here are some healthy banana chips recipes.

6/8

Fried banana chips

Take a raw banana and cut the ends. Peel off the skin of the raw banana. Slice the bananas into thin even slices and immerse in a bowl with turmeric water. Fry it using sunflower oil until golden brown and season it with pepper, red chilli powder and salt.

7/8

Baked banana chips

Preheat the oven to 200F and place the banana slices in the greased baking tray. Drizzle some lemon juice on the slices and sprinkle some salt and pepper. Let it bake 1 hour. Enjoy!

8/8

Microwave banana chips

Place thinly sliced bananas onto the parchment paper. Microwave it for a minute on high power and then sprinkle some salt and pepper. Again, microwave it for 2 minutes. Spread them evenly on a plate and allow them to stand overnight. Your crispy and scrumptious chips are ready to serve.
