Festive food orders in India soar amidst festive season
India’s festive season is in full swing, and the country’s appetite is growing with it. From Raksha Bandhan to Ganesh Chaturthi, and now Navratri and Durga Puja, people are celebrating through food. Data from Swiggy shows a steady rise in festive food orders across categories such as sweets, thalis, and desserts.
Between 22 and 30 September 2025, more than 99,000 orders were placed for Sabudana Khichdi, over one lakh for Vrat Thali, and around 70,000 for Sabudana Vada. Mumbai and Bengaluru led demand for Sabudana Khichdi, while Delhi, Gurgaon, and Lucknow preferred Vrat Thali. On Ashtami, orders rose 11.58% compared to last year, with 2.2 lakh orders placed in one hour between 8 and 9 PM.
Quick deliveries gained traction on Swiggy’s Bolt service, which saw its highest orders from Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, and Delhi. Tier-two cities such as Surat and Thiruvananthapuram also showed strong participation. Domino’s emerged as the top dessert choice, with cakes and sweets leading the list.
In Kolkata, Durga Puja saw orders increase by 11.26% from last year, with biryani being the top dish. One customer placed an order worth ₹18,000, reflecting the enthusiasm for festive meals.
Earlier, Ganesh Chaturthi saw over 2.2 lakh modaks ordered, while Raksha Bandhan recorded a 32% rise in orders over 2024. The trend shows how food delivery has become a steady part of India’s festive routine, blending convenience with celebration.
