Importance of vitamin C and fruits rich in it

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is a water-soluble essential vitamin with crucial roles in overall health. It is considered a powerful antioxidant that helps neutralize harmful free radicals, reduces oxidative stress, protects cells from damage, and slows aging and disease progression. It enhances the production and function of white blood cells and is essential for collagen synthesis, which keeps skin, blood vessels, bones, and gums healthy. As per a study by the Indian Journal of Medical Research, fruits like guava contain 4–5 times more vitamin C than oranges. As per the National Library of Medicine, antioxidant properties of vitamin C contribute to the prevention of diseases such as atherosclerosis, diabetes, and certain neurodegenerative disorders. Emerging research suggests that vitamin C may play a role in cancer treatment through epigenetic regulation, although more studies are needed to confirm its efficacy. The same study also mentions that vitamin C can improve skin appearance by promoting collagen synthesis and protecting against UV-induced damage. This piece of information explores fruits with the highest vitamin C levels that one can add in daily diet.
