From sushi to pizza, it is perfectly okay to eat these foods with hands

How to eat with your hands

Eating with hands has always been an integral part of our Indian culture along with some other Southeast Asian countries like Malaysia, Indonesia and Sri Lanka. But with urbanization, a lot of us moved towards spoons and forks. While we all enjoy the true flavour of food with hands, a lot of times we avoid it because we feel eating with hands, especially when we are dining out, does not look refined. Worry not, there are certain foods that can be rightly relished with hands without feeling conscious. Here they are:

2/8

Tacos

Worried about spilling refried beans and salsa after just a couple of bites? In Mexico, tacos are traditionally eaten with a fork and knife, just like you'd eat burger or sandwich with shiny cutlery in certain parts of the world. However, this crunchy, crispy treat should be eaten by holding the taco near the center with your fingers.

3/8

Sushi

Sushi is traditionally eaten all in one bite and by hand. Eating sushi with your hands means a better grip, and having more control when you dip your sushi into your soy sauce. Nigiri and maki are the two common types of sushi, which should be eaten with hands, as eating them with chopsticks can make the rice fall out.

4/8

Pizza

There are many different ways to eat pizza but eating it with your hands is probably the best way. The ideal way to eat pizza is by folding the slice vertically along the middle so that the topping does not fall off. Eating with hands will surely get toppings and cheese all over your hands, but isn’t that the best part?

5/8

Sandwich

Sandwich lovers know that it’s all about the grip, as thumbs and pinky fingers grip the bottom of the sandwich while the rest of the fingers hold the top of the sandwich to keep the toppings from spilling out. It’s best to cut them in half before eating.

6/8

Ethopian food

The thumb rule of eating Ethiopian food is to use your hands. Although eating with your hands may seem informal, but it is a standard practice in Ethiopian culture, not just in local homes but also in restaurants. By the way, Ethiopians consider eating with left hand a dirty practice, so make sure you use your right hand.

7/8

Cheese

A feasible way to eat your cheese is with your bare hands. You should eat cheese with a fork, if it is served as a side that accompanies another dish, such as meat or pie.

8/8

Asparagus

If the stalks are heavily buttered or dipped in some sauce, it will make your fingers greasy, making eating it with fork and knife mess-free. However, if these long, skinny, green spears are crisp and free of sauces, then it should be eaten with your hands (provided they are firm).
