7 Foods that remind us of our school days

Today is Teacher's Day and let's revive the nostalgia by remembering the most cherished days of our life. From making beautiful cards for Teachers to organizing small feasts and potlucks to make the day special for our Teachers, we all have had our bitter-sweet memories of school.

Had this been a typical year, students across India would have been celebrating Teacher’s day at school. Coronavirus pandemic has made many realise that school was not at all bad! Even those who made up excuses to avoid school must be missing their Teachers today. We all shared a love-hate relationship with our Teachers, but did not miss one chance to make them feel special on Teacher’s day. They are after all a big part of our school memories that we all will cherish forever. This Teacher's day, here are seven foods that take us all back to our school days!

2/8

Pineapple & Black forest Pastry

Pineapple and Black forest pastries were an inseparable part of all the school celebrations. These pastries were so popular that students collected money to buy black forest or pineapple cake on Teacher’s and Children’s day to make the occasion even more special. What's more, these pastries were the most-loved creamy pastries served during school picnics along with other refreshments? Even now, the delight of devouring into those delicious pastries is beyond words!

3/8

Cotton Candies

Do you remember the excitement to see the cotton candy man just when school was over? Our love for cotton candies goes back to preschool time. As soon as we took a bite of that fluffy, pink candy, it was like we have tasted pure joy! Even now the sight of cotton candies takes us back to our early and carefree school days!

4/8

Bread Pakodas

The crispy and delicious bread pakodas were probably the best treat found in the school canteen. They were filling, tasty and suitable to have any time of the day. This made them really popular among kids at the school. That is one strong reason why bread pakodas were often offered as a prize to win a bet!

5/8

Aloo Tikkis

Aloo tikkis or cutlets have been an essential part of all our school lives. The aroma that emanated from the tiffin, when mom used to pack those flavourful aloo tikkis! We have all requested her to pack extra so that we could share with our friends. Many aloo tikki and chaat vendors used to stand outside the school as well. You know, for days when we could enjoy as much aloo as we wanted to !

6/8

Butter toffees

How can we ever forget singing ‘Happy Birthday’ for our friends all clad in new clothes and then receiving butter toffees? Chewy, sticky and oh so sweet, these toffees were enough to put a smile on any face. We all had shamelessly asked for extra toffees from the birthday boy or girl, even when the sticky toffees used to cling to unreachable corners of our mouth!

7/8

Milkshakes & cold coffee

Sipping milkshakes and making silly noises with the straw, while sitting and chatting with friends at the canteen is one of many fondest memories for many of us. Nobody can forget the silly banters and stealing each other’s milkshake in the name of ‘sharing is caring’!

8/8

Aloo Patties

Crispy and flaky pastry filled with a spicy potato filling, aloo patty was a favourite food from school days for so many of us. Remember asking our friends for a ‘cold drink and patties’ party? Even when its flakes used to get all over the school uniform, we used to dip the aloo patty in the delicious ketchup and devour one after the other every day.

Happy Teacher's Day 2020!
