Making chemical-free dishwashing liquid

Dishwashing is one of the important chores of the day, after which we often feel our hands dry and harsh. The reason for it is that most of the dishwashing soaps or even liquids have lots of chemicals present in them. What if we tell you that it is quite easy to make a dishwashing liquid at home, which is totally safe and environment-friendly as well? This natural dishwashing liquid is the best way to save some money and ensure a chemical-free cleaning product in your home that uses simple ingredients to make. (Images courtesy: iStock)

The bubbles in dishwashing liquid

You may find a lot of recipes online for making a natural dishwashing liquid but most often many people fail to provide a positive result. This is one of the reasons why people experiment at home. Another thing that you should understand is that do not expect the homemade dishwashing liquid to have lots of bubbles as that happens due to so many chemicals present in it. The bubbles later leave a white film on the utensils due to the hard water, which takes a lot of time in cleaning and might increase the consumption of water. Thus, here is a recipe that will prevent such water consumption and will make the whole dishwashing experience easier.

Dishwashing liquid ingredients

1 cup soap nuts, 2 cups water, 1/4 cup rock salt or sea salt, 6-7 Lemons, 4 tbsp White vinegar

How to make it

To make this natural dishwashing liquid, soak the soap nuts for 8-9 hours in water or soak them overnight. Next morning, put these in a pan of water and boil them along with cut lemon pieces until done. Or put them in a pressure cooker and pressure cook for 2 whistles. Let the mixture cool down and once done, peel the soap nuts and remove the seeds. Add this mixture to a blending jar and blend them to a fine paste. Add another 1/2 cup of water and blend once again to make it a runny paste. To this mixture, add another 1 1/2 cups of water and mix very well. Finally, strain the mixture and add the sea salt to it along with 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Mix well and let them simmer for 5-6 minutes. Bring it to a boil and let the mixture simmer for another 5 minutes. Once boiled, turn off the heat and let the mixture cool down. The dishwashing liquid is ready to use. Do try this easy recipe at home.
