Cakes, chaats and Kaju barfi top Rakhi food orders
This Raksha Bandhan, Swiggy recorded a strong rise in food orders, with both metros and non-metros contributing to the growth. Overall orders increased by 32.4 percent compared to last year, led by Bengaluru and Mumbai. Non-metros showed an even sharper rise of 38.1 percent, with cities such as Surat, Thiruvananthapuram, Patna, Vadodara and Ludhiana at the forefront.
Dinner time saw the highest activity, as the platform handled over 4,650 orders per minute between 8 and 9 pm. The peak was 5,500 orders per minute, a 28 percent increase from Rakhi last year. Swiggy also reported a 20 percent rise in first-time users, showing that festivals are becoming occasions when more people adopt food delivery to save time and share meals with family. The single highest bill placed this year was Rs 15,740 from a non-metro city and Rs 26,434 from a metro.
Sweets were a key highlight of the festival. Dessert orders grew by 36.7 percent, with Kaju Barfi emerging as the top choice. Bengaluru led the demand for Kaju Barfi nationwide, while cakes in multiple flavours — milk, white and dark chocolate — also saw strong orders.
The data reflects how Indian families are blending tradition with modern convenience. By using Swiggy to order festive meals and sweets, they are able to uphold customs while making the most of technology to bring people together more easily.
