Simple ways to make thick and dense Hot Chocolate without adding extra calories

Winter season is all about cravings and indulgence, and a thick, velvety and dense Hot Chocolate always tops this list! Well, if you too are someone who is always yearning for a warm cup of hot chocolate, then we have got your back with some super simple ways to recreate cafe-style hot chocolate at home that too without adding on extra calories that comes from cream, sugar, condensed milk and what not! So, without further ado follow us through some simple ways to make dense hot chocolate at home that too in a much healthier way.

2/6

Use Unsweetened Cocoa

The first step to make a dense cup of hot chocolate starts with choosing the right cocoa powder, and if you want to keep calories in check then opt for unsweetened cocoa powder. Start with mixing 2 tbsp high-quality unsweetened cocoa powder whisked into 1 cup hot almond milk, which has about 30 calories. Pure cocoa powder’s natural starch thickens as it heats, which gives a velvety texture to the drink, simmer till it is reduced to half. You can add stevia or honey to sweeten the drink.

3/6

Thicken with nuts and seeds

This is a healthy way to make your drink dense, soak 1tbsp chia seeds and blend it along with 5-6 almonds and 3-4 soaked raisins. Boil 1 1/2 cup of skim milk or oat milk, add in the blend and mix well, and add in 2 tbsp cocoa powder. To this drink add stevia, and once the drink thickens turn off the flame and transfer to a cup and enjoy.

4/6

Dark Chocolate Shavings

Melt 10g of 70% fine dark chocolate into hot low-fat milk whisked with 1 tbsp cocoa. Chocolate's cocoa butter emulsifies richness and adds in some cinnamon to add flavour and depth. The presence of polyphenols in chocolate supports heart health without sugar spikes.

5/6

Cinnamon and Nutmeg

Infuse 1 cup hot water-based cocoa with skim milk powder with 1/2 tsp cinnamon and pinch nutmeg. Spices' volatile oils coat the palate, enhancing perceived thickness. Zero calories, yet they slow digestion for satiety. Sweeten with monk fruit drops.

6/6

Frothy Finish

After mixing cocoa, milk, and thickener, blend for 30 seconds on high. Air creates foam that doubles volume and mouthfeel. Top with cinnamon dust.
