Harbhajan Kaur's Besan ki Barfi!

We keep hearing that it’s never too late to live your dreams. And it seems 94-year-old Harbhajan Kaur of Chandigarh is living by these words. Four years back, Harbhajan started selling her signature homemade Besan ki Barfi, which was earlier relished only by the family members. It’s her daughter, Raveena Suri, who gave her the push and today, she is breaking the internet, as Anand Mahindra has tweeted her as ‘Entrepreneur of the year’. Let’s have a look at her tasteful journey of passion.

2/5

How did it happen?

It all started in 2016, when Harbhajan's daughter asked her if she had any regrets in life, to which she expressed that she never earned a penny for herself. That's when Raveena suggested her to start selling her signature 'Besan ki Barfi'. Soon, the idea took its final shape and she started selling barfis under the brand name Harbhajan's and the tagline "Bachpan yaad aajaega (you’ll remember your childhood)”.

Only on order barfis

At the age of 94, she makes only on order and people come to collect the freshly made barfi at her residence. The most interesting thing is, she manages everything on her own, from roasting the gram flour to cutting the perfectly shaped barfis. In a statement her daughter said that that mom always believes that it is better to wear out than to rust out.

Entrepreneur of the year

Her hard work received the best appreciation when Anand Mahindra tweeted her as ‘Entrepreneur of the year’. In his tweet he mentioned, “When you hear the word ‘start-up’ it brings to mind images of millennials in Silicon Valley or Bengaluru trying to build billion dollar ‘unicorns.’ From now on let’s also include a 94 yr old woman who doesn’t think it’s too late to do a start-up. She’s my entrepreneur of the year.”
5/5

Takeaway

Harbhajas’s passion pushed her to make it possible at the age of 94. So, if you had been hesitant in living your dreams, it’s time to smell the coffee and get going. Life is too short to sacrifice any dream, just make it happen and feel the change.
