Gurugram community fridge

Two years back, one noble step in Sector 54 of Gurugram (then Gurgaon) changed the mindset of people towards wastage of food and hunger. Started near the gates of Suncity flats, the community fridge (Sharing Shelves) by the residents stocks vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items, available free of cost for the needy.

What’s the idea?

With an idea to reduce food wastage and also cover the hunger issue in the society, Sharing Shelves is an initiative that involves more than 100 families.
3/5

What’s the motive?

The motive of people involved in the noble initiative is to serve ‘humanity’. They think that by doing this, they can eradicate hunger and control food wastage in the area and with the support of the society.
4/5

Response rate

It has been a positive initiative where residents have been extremely supportive and have been stocking the fridge every day. This noble cause has motivated many to open community refrigerators in many other areas. If we believe the reports, social media has played a key role in spreading the word and garnering support across the city.
5/5

The timing and availability

The fridge is functional 24*7 and people can deposit food at any time. From autorickshaw drivers to beggars, the fridge is open for all to take away the food. The best part is, they even have veg and non-veg marking stickers for people to easily understand and pick their choice of food.
