What does the shell consist of?

As per studies, the outer covering of the egg consists of calcium carbonate, proteins, and other minerals. It has been found that every single shell is approximately 40 percent calcium, with each gram offering 381–401 mg. Risks associated with eggshell

As far as risks are concerned, experts feel that eggshells should always be consumed in small fragments, as bigger chunks might hurt the throat and esophagus. Also, there are chances that the eggshell might be contaminated with bacteria, such as Salmonella enteritidis. Hence, it is advisable to boil the eggshell before consumption to avoid food poisoning.
