The right way to make oatmeal

Oatmeal is one of the healthiest breakfast options when you are trying to shed kilos. It is rich in protein, fiber and essential nutrients that can help to keep you fuller for a longer period. It is a wholesome meal, low in calories and the best part is that it is easy to put together. Just 10 minutes and your delicious healthy meal is ready. Besides, you can never get bored of it as you can experiment with it by adding different ingredients. A perfect recipe for weight loss. But oatmeal can turn from healthy to unhealthy real quick if you are not careful with its preparation method. When experimenting with the recipe sometimes people go overboard and add something that increases the calorie count and can lead to weight gain. Here we will tell you the right way to make oatmeal when you are trying to shed kilos.

2/5

The right types of oats

In the market aisle, you will find three main types of oats- steel-cut oats, rolled oats and instant oats. The main difference between these three types of oats is the way they are processed. Three of them are processed differently, which changes their nutrient level. Steel-cut oats are better than the other two as they are less processed and contain minimum chemicals. Moreover, it is also rich in fiber.

3/5

Serving size

Just because oats are healthy that does mean you can have them as much as you want. Having too much of it at one time can increase your calorie count and will throw you off track. Fix your calorie count of the day beforehand, then divide them between the three square meals and 2 snacks of the day and consume only that much calorie in your breakfast.

4/5

Avoid sugar

Are you trying to lose weight but adding sugar to your oatmeal? If you like your oatmeal to be sweet you can add a teaspoon of honey, jaggery or maple syrup. Else you also have the option of adding nuts, fruits, peanut butter or dates to your oatmeal to make it taste sweeter. Sugar contains empty calories and has no nutrients. Adding them to your oat will first increase your calorie count, second will lead to inflammation in the body and other health-related problems.

5/5

The bottom line

If weight loss is your priority then opt for clean eating. The more packed and junk food you will eat, losing weight will become more complex for you. Also, when adding fruits, nuts, peanut butter and natural sweetener to your oatmeal, be careful about your portion size. Adding excess of anything can wreck your weight loss plan.
