Ayurvedic remedies to boost immunity against COVID

Keeping infections at bay, especially for the Coronavirus, is essential and easy with a sound immune system. Ayurveda, an alternative medical system that emphasizes prevention and treatment, recommends some excellent techniques, herbs and spices to boost immunity.

2/6

Kadha or herbal tea

“Spices with strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties should be consumed in the form of herbal tea or kadha made from tulsi (basil), kalimirch (black pepper), dalchini (cinnamon), shunthi (dry ginger) and munakka (raisin) once or twice a day. You can add jaggery or lemon juice for taste,” says Dr. Pradeep Shrivastav, Production Head, Krishna's Herbal and Ayurveda.

Benefits

The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of the species help reduce mucus buildup and kindle digestive fire by speeding up metabolism.

3/6

Golden milk or turmeric milk

A cup of turmeric milk daily works wonders for immunity. For solid immunity, consider mixing half a teaspoon of turmeric powder in 150 ml of hot milk can be taken once or twice daily.

Benefits

Turmeric's antioxidant properties prevent inflammation of cells. A compound called curcumin helps in the growth of brain cells.

4/6

Nasya

Nasya is a simple and ancient practice of applying oil in the nostrils that should be applied on an empty stomach an hour before the bath. Then, lie down with your head pulled back to put 4-5 drops of ghee, sesame oil, or coconut oil in each nostril

Benefit

Dr. Shrivastav advises , “Administering Nasya can prevent the entry of infections as it helps to ward off infections by clearing the nasal passage. Dry nasal passages trap infections quickly, so keep them moist and lubricated.”
5/6

Chyawanprash

Chawanprash is a blend of Amla and thirty other herbs combined with jaggery, It is prepared as per the instructions suggested in Ayurveda texts and can be consumed in winter seasons every day at least two times.

Benefits

Chyawanprash, a Rasayana per Ayurveda, protects from infections and prevents inflammation of body cells.

It helps to purify the blood and is beneficial for our respiratory system.

6/6

Oil pulling therapy

It is an Ayurvedic practice of swishing edible oil around the mouth and spitting it out. For example, for oil pulling, take one tablespoon of sesame or coconut oil in the mouth, swish it for 2-3 minutes and spit it off, followed by a warm water rinse.

Benefits

As per Ayurveda, the practice of oil pulling improves your oral and nasal immunity.

It hydrates the mucus membrane, which protects from the onslaught of bacteria, viruses and fungi.

It may also help reduce bad breath and prevent cavities.
