"...never heard or experienced before, but there it is and yes extreme pain .."

Amitabh Bachchan took to his personal blog on Tumblr to update his fans and followers about his health. Few weeks before he had suffered a rib cage injury on the sets of his upcoming project 'Project K' which stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani in major roles; the movie is directed by Nag Ashwin.

"...the rib continues in its painful journey .. but another erupts at the toe..."

Senior Bachchan reveals of another health issue which he says in his blog "draws attention greater than the rib .. so .. the rib diminishes and the attention drifts to the toe ..."

He writes about callus growth in his toe and a blister that has grown underneath the callus.

Blisters are painful and Senior Bachchan has narrated the pain in his blog. "the hand that wrote endlessly and with great endeavour, brought down by the pain of its continuous use .. put it in warm or hot water .. no results .. so mentally shift it to the other hand .. now the other paineth and the original be safe and secure .. and in work mode ...," he writes.

What is callus?

Calluses are thick layers of skin that develop in feet, toes, hands and fingers, which are hard and stubborn in nature. It is believed that these thick layers form to protect the skin against friction or pressure as they develop due to pressure on the skin.

The calluses have a yellowish appearance and since they are thick they are not sensitive

Calluses do not need medical treatment until they don't cause pain.

4/6

When do calluses need medical treatment?

When the callus becomes painful, feels warm like a bruise and starts leaking fluid and pus it is highly recommended to get it medically treated.

Sometimes the callus appears red too.

One should also pay attention to callus and their growth as these areas have poor circulation, have fragile skin, and there is numbness in the peripheral areas due to the callus.

5/6

Who needs to be extra careful about callus?

While everyone is prone to callus, as it is caused due to extra pressure on the skin there are certain groups of people who are more prone to developing callus and having severe complications due to it.

People who have diabetes, who suffer from peripheral neuropathy and those who have peripheral arterial disease should be extra careful about callus.

Old age, those having joint diseases, having bunions or hammer toe issues in the feet, and having flat feet increases the risk of developing callus.

6/6

How to avoid calluses?

Avoid all those habits and practices that you think might be putting undue pressure on the skin of your feet, hands and arms.

Do not wear shoes which are too tight or too loose, always wear socks that fit well.

Walking barefoot naturally makes the skin protect itself by thickening.

If you are involved in work that requires you to deal with instruments and machinery, wear gloves.
