The 32 year old died of blood clotting syndrome after first dose of the vaccine

A fatal effect of AstraZeneca’s COVID vaccine has been reported by the NY Times quoting a report released by a London coroner on Wednesday.

In this "highly rare case of a fatal reaction to the vaccine", Dr Stephen Wright, a 32 year old psychologist developed blood clots 10 days after getting the first shot of the said vaccine.

He died on January 26, 2021.

His wife will sue AstraZeneca

As per the media report, Charlotte Wright, the widow of Dr. Stephen Wright had requested an enquiry on her husband's death. It was found that Dr Wright succumbed to the rare blood condition in January 2021 as a result of “unintended consequences of vaccination.”

The symptoms

10 days after getting the first dose, the father of two, had a stroke and bleeding in the brain. He also developed vaccine induced thrombosis and thrombocytopenia, a condition when the platelet level of the blood is critically low.

His condition rapidly worsened, but the nature of the bleed meant he was unfit for surgery, the BBC reported.

Is this a common occurrence?

Thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS) following a vaccination is a rare event, health experts and studies have found.

Earlier studies had found "a small increased risk" of the fatal condition after the first dose of AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

In 2021, Britain had curbed the use of AstraZeneca vaccine in adults under 30 citing the risk of rare blood clot events.

AstraZeneca was not approved for use in the US.

"40 deaths linked to the blood-clotting syndrome"

Dr. Adam Finn, a professor of pediatrics at the University of Bristol told the NY Times that about 50 million doses of the said vaccine have been administered in the UK so far and 40 deaths due to blood clotting have been reported linked to the vaccine.

He said that 200 similar cases have also been reported so far.

The BBC report on this however said, “there have been 1,300 reports to the regulator of suspected deaths after taking the jab.”

AstraZeneca vaccine triggers a complex reaction in the body

Researchers believe that a protein in the human blood has an affinity towards a component of the vaccine which initiates a chain reaction that involves the immune system and results in formation of life threatening clots.

The potential side effects of AstraZeneca vaccine as mentioned by the UK government are changes in your heartbeat, swelling of lips, face, or throat; shortness of breath or wheezing, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting and feeling faint.
