Waking up early in the morning has its own special fanclub. You feel energized, feel a lot more time on your hands, and if Ayurvedic beliefs are to go by, waking up before sunrise is the best to do so.

Apart from imparting the knowledge of balanced diet, yoga, meditation and medicines, Ayurveda also very well describes the sleep rituals and perfect timing to sleep or wake up. Ever wonder why your grandparents might always insist on waking up before the sunrise, naming that given period as 'Brahmamuhurta' i.e. between 3.30 a.m. and 5.30 a.m? Well, turns out they were right all along and Ayurvedic beliefs support the same.

According to traditional beliefs and Ayurveda, waking up during this period provides a positive energy to the body since the environment is intensely soothing and serene at that time. We tell you why.

A lot of cultural beliefs, texts and scientific reasoning has suggested that waking up early in the wee hours of the morning can be beneficial. It has been suggested that not only does waking up early during Brahmamuhurta liven you up, but by including yoga, meditative and therapeutic activities, one can achieve holistic wellness. Additionally, any wellness activities taken up during this period can help an individual in:

-Improving and balancing mental health.

-Improving and curing memory related problems and concentration.

-Increases the energy level of the body and helps in working efficiently.

While all the causes of all these benefits are rightly explained in the Ayurveda. It mentions that there are 3 troublesome elements present in the human body that are Vata (Air and Ether), Pitta (Fire and Water) and Kapha (Earth and Water). The amount of these elements keeps on fluctuating according to the time.

Vata is associated with the muscular, breathing, blinking and tissue & cell movements.

Pitta is associated with the digestion, excretion, metabolism, and body temperature processes.

Kapha is related to the body’s structure i.e. bones, tendons, & muscles, while providing the adhesive to hold the cells together and helping in the lubrication of joints.

The ideal time to wake up

Well of course, one should definitely try waking up anywhere between the Brahmamuhurta and practice meditative and knowledge gaining activities. Due to the ambient nature one can appreciate the beauty of nature along with having a peaceful, and refreshing time in the morning.
