How to minimise the side effects of coronavirus vaccine

As the government's effort to vaccinate more and more people have intensified to cut down the risk of COVID-19 infection, there is still confusion among the masses regarding its safety. The reports highlighting the side-effects of vaccination among those who have received the first shot has created confusion and many are scared to take the jab. People are experiencing symptoms like fever, body ache and pain in the spot of injection. While these signs might seem alarming, experts have pointed out that they are signs that your body is building immunity against the virus. The signs disappear one or two days after receiving the vaccine. If you are facing discomfort, here are a few things you can do to minimise the aches and pain.

2/6

Stay hydrated

Fever and weakness are some common side-effects of getting the vaccine. It generally stays for 2-3 days. Drinking plenty of water can help to flush out toxins from the body and aid in speedy recovery. Take extra effort to stay hydrated for at least 2 days after getting the vaccine. You can also drink coconut water, juice or infused water to stay hydrated.

3/6

Take rest

Your immune system has to work hard to produce antibodies to protect against COVID-19. This can lead to a little discomfort like joint pain, headache and nausea. Do not overstress yourself during this time. If your routine allows you, take some rest. Get plenty of sleep before and after the dose. Meditate if you can to calm your mind and manage your stress level. Sleeping on time and staying stress-free supports your immunity and helps the vaccine to build antibodies.

4/6

Use ice pack

Some people even experience soreness, redness and pain at the injection site. This might make it difficult to move your arms or perform daily tasks. If it is making you uncomfortable, apply an ice pack or put a wet towel on your arms, where you have got the injection. Also, move your arms or exercise a little bit. This can help to reduce swelling and pain.

5/6

Take pain meds if necessary

Usually, the pain and discomfort after the vaccination go away on their own after a few days, but if it is really disturbing you or you are not able to manage it take medication. Consult with your doctors, they may prescribe you some medication for pain and fever. For your safety, do not self prescribe any medication as it may interfere with the vaccine.

6/6

Eat healthy foods

The vaccine works better when you follow healthy lifestyle habits. Eat healthy foods to stay fit and recover faster. Have foods rich in protein, zinc, calcium, iron and other essential nutrients. A healthy diet helps to build your immune system and aid in active recovery. Stay away from excessive fatty and processed food.
