Harrison Ford, aging gracefully at 83: 6 habits behind his long-term vitality

Beyond his on-screen legacy, Harrison Ford, even at 83, defies age with grace. The Indiana Jones star continues to surprise everyone with his sustained vitality. Ford’s secret behind long-term well being doesn’t revolve around health fads, but consistent habits and resilient mindset that reflects in his lifestyle. Harrison Ford’s approach is grounded and emphasises that longevity is shaped less by intensity and more by consistency. Here are the six healthy habits from Harrison Ford’s way of living.

“I was tired of eating meat”

Ford had a major shift in diet, and he has openly credited this change for a healthier physique. On The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Ford said that he mainly eats vegetables and fish. He focuses on plant based foods and fish, which strongly aligns with the Mediterranean diet, which is proven to be one of the healthiest diets worldwide.

3/7

Ford takes no dairy products or meat

In the interview with Ellen, Ford revealed that he had cut out on both dairy and meat products. He said, “I just decided I was tired of eating meat, and I know it’s not really good for the planet and it’s not really good for me.”
Added to this, according to Harvard T.H. Chan school of public health, milk may not be necessary for adults and can be a good option for children.

4/7

Rides bike and plays tennis

One of the physical activities Ford continuously does is cycling. AOL reported that even at 83, Ford is regularly seen out on his bike, from scenic rides along the Los Angeles coastline to longer distance sessions. In the Ellen show, Ford said “I don’t work out like crazy. I work out a bit. I mean I ride bikes and I play tennis.”

5/7

Beyond workouts: Ford does household chores

Ford has revealed that he is a ‘neat freak’. According to Stuff.co.nz, Ford loves nothing that ‘cleaning up’. Ford finds home cooking a ‘pleasurable experience’.
Such activities are described as non-exercise activity thermogenesis or NEAT. Research shows that NEAT plays a significant role in maintaining metabolic health, improving circulation, and reducing the risks associated with prolonged sitting, particularly in older adults.

6/7

Consistency over extremity

One key to Harrison Ford’s long-term vitality is his focus on moderation and consistency rather than extreme routines. He has openly said, “No, I don't work out like crazy.” He rather reinforces the idea that sustainable, enjoyable activity over years contributes to his ongoing fitness. This suggests that longevity is built through steady and repeatable actions, and not the extreme ones.

7/7

Ford advocates for a healthy environment

A long-time environmental advocate, Ford has consistently spoken about the connection between planetary health and human well-being. He serves as Vice Chair of Conservation International and has used his public platform to raise awareness about climate change, deforestation and biodiversity loss. Ford’s advocacy reflects a broader understanding of longevity, that health is not only shaped by diet and exercise, but also by the quality of the environment we live in.
