Scientists say drinking a small glass of this juice daily can bring down BP naturally

High blood pressure is rising as a worldwide health issue that silently damages arteries, kidneys, the brain and the heart. High blood pressure can even lead to the risk of a heart attack. According to The World Health Organization, only 12% of Indians have their blood pressure under control. Hypertension kills more adults than any other cause, even though it is readily preventable.
A recent study conducted at UK University of Exeter have found that a small glass of this easily available natural item can bring down blood pressure naturally. The magic ingredient is Beetroot!

What does the juice contain that’s so powerful?

The blood pressure lowering magic of beetroot comes from its nitrate content. Beetroot juice is naturally rich in inorganic nitrates. The good bacteria present in our mouth convert the nitrates into nitrites, and inside the body, nitrites are converted into nitric oxide. Nitric oxide widens and relaxes the blood vessels and works as a natural vasodilator. Easier blood flow automatically lowers the systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
Other bioactive compounds present in beetroot are betalains and antioxidants. This may support the health of inner blood vessel lining called endothelial function.

The right amount for a meaningful drop in BP

If you want beetroot juice to support healthy blood pressure in a natural way, take in consideration the amount and the time of consumption. Drink 200-250 ml of freshly prepared beetroot juice per day. Most studies have shown that this amount has shown a meaningful drop in blood pressure.

Easily prepare beetroot juice at home

Wash and peel 2-3 fresh beetroots. Blend the peeled beetroots with a little water. Strain the juice if you prefer a smoother texture. Making beetroot juice a part of everyday routine rather than an occasional drink has shown significant improvements in blood pressure. Drink the juice every morning on an empty stomach.

Beetroot juice may provide other health benefits too

Beyond the blood pressure lowering effect, beetroot juice may offer a range of other health benefits. Beetroots can improve stamina by enhancing oxygen delivery to muscles. Some studies even suggest a role in reducing dementia risk as nitric oxide improves blood flow to the brain, which enhances cognitive function. Beetroot juice can also work as a detox. The betalains in beetroot helps in supporting liver detox pathways and removes toxins from the body.

Possible side effects to consider before consumption

Despite its health benefits, beetroot juice isn’t completely free of side effects. Consumption of beetroot juice in moderation is important. Beetroot is rich in oxalates which can lead to formation of kidney stones in some individuals. Excessive consumption of beetroot juice can also lead to digestive discomfort in some individuals, as it is high in fiber and natural sugars.
