Study says yes to whiskey on the rock

We have our evening priorities straight if we know the drink we would be gulping down. Whiskey is one such drink. While many believe that it takes years for some to acquire whiskey’s taste, science, on the other hand, has found how you need to be consuming it if you want to get its taste properly.

2/6

Benefits of whiskey

BENEFITS OF WHISKEY: Since whiskey is a grain-derived alcohol, it brings with it certain benefits. But the foremost thing to remember is that anything in excess is bad, especially if they tend to play with your senses. Some of the most surprising benefits of whiskey include weight loss, diabetes control, healthy cholesterol levels, and it is also linked to reducing stress.

3/6

Why you need to dilute

WHY YOU NEED TO DILUTE: According to studies, one glass of whiskey is sufficient for the day. However, diluting this with ice or water will help you in two aspects: Your whiskey will taste better and diluted alcohol is good for health.

4/6

For flavour

FOR FLAVOUR: A study published in the journal Scientific Reports concluded that drinking neat whiskey is not the best for you if you wish to get its taste properly. The team of scientists, through a computer simulation, concluded that whiskey’s flavour responds well when diluted with water or ice.

5/6

Main reason

MAIN REASON: This is because the main molecule responsible for this taste, guaiacol, reacts better if the right amount of water or ice is added to whiskey. This means that addition of water will intensify the taste and smell of the whiskey at the same time.

6/6

ABV

ABV: If the ABV (alcohol by volume) of your drink is higher than 59 per cent, you will have to dilute it. Therefore, for both health and taste buds, it is better to dilute your whiskey with ice or water.
