Amaranth Vs Quinoa

Quinoa is the super food of this decade. With everyone obsessing over this protein-rich, low-calorie grain, Quinoa has taken the center stage whether it comes to breakfast options or desserts. But, since Quinoa is not an Indian-origin grain, it is expensive. Even though it has numerous benefits, Quinoa can burn a hole in your pocket if you wish to use it regularly.

2/8

Amaranth the Indian superfood

Don’t sweat already. We have the perfect alternative for you: Amaranth. Even though originally the Aztecs used to consume Amaranth, in the past few years, India has seen a rise in its consumption. Amaranth is Quinoa’s brother, only with more protein quantity and cheaper in the price range!

3/8

Price difference

PRICE DIFFERENCE: While 500 grams of Amaranth will cost you around Rs. 150, Quinoa, on the other hand, will cost you easily Rs. 400 for the same quantity.

4/8

More protein

MORE PROTEIN: Amaranth has more protein than Quinoa. While Quinoa contains 13 grams of protein, Amaranth contains 14 grams of protein. Therefore, if you feel that the foreign Quinoa is better for protein than locally grown Amaranth, it’s time you reconsider your options.

5/8

Gluten-free

GLUTEN-FREE: Amaranth is gluten-free, just like Quinoa. If you are planning to go on a gluten-free diet or are suffering from celiac disease, you can consider Amaranth. Amaranth roti and bread are common now and can be consumed in your normal day diet.

6/8

Cholesterol levels

CHOLESTEROL LEVELS: Amaranth helps in lowering cholesterol levels. It is great for heart-patients and obese people to include in diet and get rid of high-fatty foods.

7/8

Vitamin-rich

VITAMIN-RICH: Amaranth and Quinoa both are highly nutritious grains and contain vitamins like A, C, E, K and B6 folate riboflavin. In normal words, they are rich antioxidants which make your body disease free.

8/8

Carbohydrate quantity

CARBOHYDRATE QUANTITY: The only not so drastic difference between Quinoa and Amaranth are that the former contains less carbohydrate. Quinoa contains 40 grams of carbs in one cup while Amaranth contains 46 grams. But, other things considered and Amaranth being approximately three times cheaper, you should not mind this.
