6 safe foods to eat at an Indian wedding

Weddings are fat affairs in India; as the shaadis are getting grander by the day, so is their menu. Weddings literally have three times the variety a restaurant serves on a normal day. Though there are more philanthropic concerns to its economies and wastage, what concerns a health freak more is the choice and not letting the choice get the better of him. Although, in our country, weddings are about having cheat days but with the wedding season coming, we are sure to attend more than one wedding a week. And, so as many cheat days? That’s not ideal. So, here are six foods you must pick in the wedding to stay your fitter self.

2/7

Fruit salad

That should be your first go-to stall as you enter the food hall. These days, fruits don’t mean a boring array of just apples, peaches, bananas and watermelons. The exquisite weddings offer exquisite fruits, the likes of which include the dragon fruit, tamarillo, carambola and langsat. Have good two bowls of these multi-coloured and juicy fruits.

Calories: 100 to 150

3/7

Roasted dry fruit chaat

This is another super healthy snack you must not skip. Its bowl consists of a healthy amalgamation of raisins, sweet potato, cashews, pomegranate, various seeds, pista, peanuts and even makhanas. It is quite filling also, making you less likely to indulge.

Calories: 200

4/7

Paneer/chicken tikka

If you still have space to take on another snack, go for the tikkas. They are really healthy and if you want to keep it healthier, ask the chef to not lard/brush it with oil. In each case, do not consume more than two to three pieces of both combined.

Calories: 150

5/7

Tawa daal/chicken curry and tawa roti

This may be the most difficult choice one must make because ditching the dal makhanis and butter chicken is not easy. However, there is a big difference in the amount of calories as the latter may have thrice the calories than the healthier options. Most weddings have a live stall for tawa foods these days and it isn’t only meant for the family elders.

Calories: 300 to 400

6/7

Brownie/Rasgulla

Although we would ask you to skip the dessert if you are not a sweet lover, brownie and rasgulla should be your safest bets. However, remember not to consume more than one piece of either.

Calories: Around 150 in each

7/7

Badam milk

Though you may think that it is a hefty drink and will be heavy on the stomach, it is quite healthy, high in proteins and low on calories.

Calories: 70
