Battling PCOS to losing weight: Sara Ali Khan’s weight loss journey is inspiring

Only one film old and another one, Simmba hitting the screens soon, it is no doubt that Kedarnath actress Sara Ali Khan is a star in the making. She is already a sensation on social media not just because of her incredible acting skills but the way she has emerged post her dramatic weight loss.

Sara Ali Khan's transformation

Before her filmy career took off, we did not spot Sara much in the public eye because she focused on completing her studies abroad. It was there when her battle with weight gain got worse.

Appearance on Karan Johar's chat show

Not shying away from her transformation, Sara Ali Khan took it upon herself to speak about her changed avatar on Karan Johar’s chat show where she came along with her father Saif Ali Khan.

Her battle with PCOD

Sara Ali Khan once again gained a lot of applause on social media for openly speaking up about her battle of weight gain and suffering from PCOD (Polycystic Ovary Disorder) which made it difficult to lose weight.

Not losing out on confidence

What is more inspiring is that Sara Ali Khan did not let her weight troubles get through her and continued to work towards her dream of being a star. Videos of her dancing on old Bollywood songs and acting out scenes while she stayed in America were revealed on the show.

Facing a low point

The real low point for Sara came when her own mother failed to recognise her at the airport, which she revealed in an interview recently. She was so disheartened by this, she refused to talk to her mother on videocall till the time she lost that weight. She even completed her graduation early so that she had time to focus on her body.

The turning point

For Sara, her ambition to act is what pushed her to lose all that excess weight. She was 96 kilos when she realised that she had to change herself. Motivated and disciplined, Sara worked hard and lost all the extra weight the same year.

Mum's the word

Not only does she look the same as her mother Amrita Singh, she is also an inspiring figure for her. In many interviews, Sara revealed that her mother is the first person she goes to for advice and in fact, she was the one who pushed her to lose weight if she wanted to pursue of being an actress.

Inspiration

Bollywood was always an inspiration for Sara. In an interview, the actress said that she did not want to be 96 kilos overweight but did not want to have a size zero figure as well. She wanted to feel healthy and empowered, emotionally, physically and mentally.

Her fitness journey

Once she set out on her journey, she started training under the right trainers. She took guidance under Namrata Purohit, a celebrity trainer, who has also coached stars like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Malaika Arora. Sara does regular pilates which tones up the body and improves the posture.

Boot camp training workout

Sara also does regular boot camp training under celebrity trainer Cindy Jourdain which is a full body workout which advances strength training, provides the fluidity of aerobics and burns more calories in lesser time.

A sports lover

Not just that, Sara is a sports lover like the rest of her family. She has often been clicked playing a game of tennis with her father and brother, Ibrahim which further helps her stay in shape.

Making a shift from pizza to salads

The biggest change for Sara was to eat healthy and change her diet. During her university days, like many of us, Sara survived on junk food including pizza. Once she knew she had to lose weight, she looked for healthier options and snacked on protein bars and salads, staying off junk.
