Is Poha good for weight loss? Nutritional facts to know

Every alternate Indian household has poha for breakfast. Be it with jaggery or as cooked with onion, we know several ways to eat poha. Since childhood our mothers have told us that poha is rich and nutritious and we have silently enjoyed a bowl of poha jaggery or curd poha or onion poha.

Poha is a nutrient dense food. It is a better option than cereals because it contains a lot of carbohydrates, protein, fibre, vitamins, and iron. All of these nutrients not only help you lose weight, but they also have a number of health benefits.

2/7

Poha for weight loss

Poha is an ideal candidate for weight loss as it contains a huge amount of fiber.

Fibers are excellent for bowel movement and also they keep an individual full for a longer duration. Having food rich in dietary fiber will suppress your appetite, will curb cravings for mid-meal food and will also stop you from overeating.

As per nutritionists, poha is very low in calories and has a sizable amount of carbohydrates. Apart from this, a full plate of poha contains 23% fat, 2.5 milligrams of fibre, 2.6 milligrams of iron and 5 milligrams of potassium.

Another reason why it is good for weight loss is that it can be cooked in several ways. You can add any type of vegetable to it and make a delicious breakfast. If you're trying to lose weight, avoid adding potatoes to poha because it will increase your calorie intake.

Apart from the weight loss factor, there are several other health benefits of eating poha:

3/7

It is easy to digest, so it will keep your gut health in check

Poha is a light breakfast dish that helps to speed up digestion. It doesn't cause bloating and helps you feel fuller for longer because it's easy to digest. It's a nutritious and appropriate breakfast.

4/7

It aids in the control of blood sugar levels

Poha is high in fibre and helps you control the amount of sugar that enters your bloodstream. This helps to avoid a spike in blood sugar levels. As a result, it is also suitable for diabetics.

5/7

It may also aid in the treatment of anaemia due to its high iron content

Add poha to your breakfast menu right away if you haven't already. Also, please remember to thank us later! You'll be surprised to learn that poha can aid in the prevention of iron deficiency. Furthermore, it reduces your chances of developing anaemia.

6/7

It's gluten-free

Are you gluten intolerant? Worried about what foods to eat and what foods to avoid? Then you should know that poha is absolutely incredible. It is gluten-free and can be consumed after consulting with your doctor.

7/7

Poha is a brain-boosting food

Vitamin B is abundant in beaten rice, which can help you stay energised and improve your brain health.
