Software engineer shares weight loss mistakes he made

Social media is a potential source of information for those who are looking for the right inspirations for weight loss. Ajay Reddy, a software engineer by profession has recently shared his weight loss experience on Quora. He says he has lost weight thrice, but it was only at the third time he realised his mistakes and worked on improving them. His account reveals the common mistakes many of us make during weight loss missions.

"I was naive and didn’t know the proper way to lose weight until 3rd attempt"

Ajay writes: I lost drastic weight 3 times so far, each time after gaining weight. I was naive and didn’t know the proper way to lose weight until my 3rd attempt. First 2 attempts, I could lose weight more than the desired but was it healthy? No. Lets look at these pictures.

3/6

His mistakes were...

Ajay reveals in the first two attempts, after which he gained weight quickly, he did not follow a healthy way to lose weight. "I didn’t take supplements, no proper food or even no protein rich food. The result was not only losing weight but muscles too. And after few years the weight increased more than the expected," he writes.

In the first two attempts he reduced his food intake to 50%, used to have 6-7 small meals daily, completely avoided junk foods and sweets, omitted oil and sugar from diet and did workout but with limited equipment, he writes.

"I took my third attempt in my 40s"

In my 40s I was well aware of my body and knew the basics of diet and workout, Ajay writes. "I decided to make balance and look and feel healthy not just decrease the weight," he adds.

His fitness rules are…

Learning from his mistakes in the first two attempts, he added protein rich food, egg whites, lentils, etc. in his diet. He minimized carbs in his meals and totally avoided junk and oily foods.

To those who are aiming to lose weight he writes, don't starve yourself, make healthy and better food habits.

On workout, he says, "don’t workout too much if you cannot continue the same, just moderate walking for 30 minutes a day may work for you." He recommends starting physical activities at a slow pace.

Important points to know

One should embark on weight loss journey only after thoroughly considering several factors like body type, medical condition and endurance.

It is advisable to not start weight loss by simply imitating someone else's diet plan.

If you have prior medical condition, consult your doctor before starting a strict diet.
