What is Power yoga

Power Yoga is a vigorous approach to vinyasa-style of yoga, in which one has to move from one pose to another in a definite flow. It is a strength-building exercise that provides a workout for your whole body.

Power yoga not just helps to burn those calories but also boosts your metabolism and tones your body. It also helps you relax, and a cool mind is ideal to achieve a slimmer waistline fast. Research also shows that those who practice yoga are more likely to exercise, be in tune with their body and are more aware of their hunger signals.

Surya Namaskara

At the heart of Power Yoga lies Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutation. Actor Kareena Kapoor swears by it, and she once did 108 Surya Namaskars. Surya Namaskara has immense benefits as it concentrates on all the core muscles of your body, including your abs. One round of Surya Namaskar consists of 12 asanas and burns 13.90 calories approximately.

Apart from this, there are several other poses that are effective in helping you get that flat belly.

Pawanmuktasana or the Wind releasing pose

This pose will help you drop those extra fat from the stomach and the stomach region as your knees exert pressure on your tummy. Lie down and slowly bend your knees towards your chest and wrap your arms around it. Holding this position for more than a minute can help trigger the burning fat in the region.

Adho Mukha Svanasana or Downward facing dog

Adho mukho svanasana pose engages your core actively, becoming one of the effective yoga poses for weight loss and flat stomach. This pose also helps to tone your arms, hands, legs and thighs. Get down on your hands and knees and spread your palms and turn your toes under. Then lift your knees up from the floor. Lengthen your back and stretch your heels towards the floor.

Bhujangasana or Cobra pose

This pose is a great choice if you want to tone your abdominal muscles. The cobra pose also cures digestive ailments like constipation. To perform this asana, lie flat on your stomach with your palms underneath the shoulders. Lift your body off the floor slowly while engaging your core muscles. Stretch your neck while looking at the ceiling.

Savasana or Corpse pose

This is the most important pose to end your Power Yoga workout session. Savasana helps your muscles relax and prevents any muscle damage. Lie down and keep your body relaxed. Close your eyes and inhale and exhale deeply, allowing your body to relax completely.
