Before starting with the recipe, know how to make a good salad

If you are planning to include a salad in your diet on a regular basis, you need to take care of a few important things.

Choose seasonal vegetables only. Do not go fancy over your vegetable and fruit selection. It will be best if you add native and locally grown foods.

Know which vegetables trouble you. Discard those veggies which cause abdominal discomfort in you.

Wash your vegetables properly before using. Fertilizers and pesticides are used massively to ensure a good crop production and it is important to wash the residues before eating them.

Keep colorful vegetables in your diet.

Find the right dressing for your salad, so that you enjoy every bite and don't get bored eating it.

Here are 5 delicious salads for you which you can prepare with local ingredients.

2/7

Quinoa salad

Ingredients: Cooked quinoa, chopped tomato, chopped bell pepper, chopped onion, stir fried vegetables, chopped cucumber. Salt, pepper, lemon juice for dressing.

Mix the ingredients together in a big bowl so that you can stir the ingredients properly and get the dressing evenly on the salad.

You can refrigerate this salad for 1-2 days. But do not keep it outside for long.

3/7

Basic cucumber salad

Ingredients: Chopped raw cucumber, chopped onion, bell pepper, cabbage, carrot, tomato, coriander leaves and green chili. Salt and lemon juice for dressing.

Put all the ingredients in a bowl and mix it properly. Add salt and lemon juice to this.

Do not let this salad remain for a long time after you add salt. This will make the ingredients lose water and they won't be crunchy for a long time.

4/7

Rajma salad

Ingredients: Cooked rajma or if you have any leftover rajma use it, chopped cabbage, carrot, onion and bell peppers. Salt and lemon juice for dressing.

Mix the ingredients together. Add salt and lemon juice to this just before you eat.

5/7

Chickpea salad

Ingredients: Boiled chickpea, cucumber, onion, carrot, boiled cauliflower, beet roots, salt, curd and black pepper powder.

Add everything to a bowl and mix them. Add salt, black pepper powder and dahi to this.

Make sure you boil the chickpeas properly. Undercooked chickpeas will have problem with digestion. It will also make it difficult for you to chew them properly as the veggies are going to be raw too.

6/7

Moong dal salad

Ingredients: Cooked moong dal, chopped vegetables of your choice, salt, tamarind juice, black pepper powder.

Depending on how you like your dal to be, you can either cook it till it gets completely soft or else you can cook it only till it gets a little soft. Moong dal is very good for the stomach.

Let the dal cool down. Add vegetables and other ingredients to this.

You can either have this as a salad or else as a side dish.

7/7

Few tips

You can customize the salads as per your taste and choice of veggies.

You can add fruits, nuts and seeds to this as well.

For dressing, you can make use of the ingredients available with you.
