The turning point

When I gained a lot of weight, I became extremely anxious, felt lonely and had no one to talk to. I used to experience low grade fever and over time, developed several health and emotional challenges.

At one point, due to a slight pain in the left side of the breast, I visited the doctor. After diagnosing my condition, the doctor adviced me to lose weight, which was quite heartbreaking for me and became one of the turning points. That is when I decided to change the course of my lifestyle and invested my time in eating healthy, exercising and reading self-help books like “Life’s amazing secrets” and “Weight loss: Tathastu”.

Diet followed

Breakfast: Handful of peanuts with chapati/parantha/daliya/ vermicelli with veggies and tea without sugar

Lunch: Any dal, sabji, 1 chapati and raw paneer or besan chilla/ dal chilla/ saute vegetables

Dinner: Turmeric milk, 1 chapati, sabji

Pre-workout meal: I had peanuts or makhanas before going for walk

Post-workout meal: After coming from walk I at sautéd vegetables (bell peppers and paneer)

I indulge in (What you eat on your cheat days): No cheat meals for 1 month, but after a month I started consuming a little bit of sugar in the form of yoga bars.

Low calorie recipes I swear by: Besan chilla, moong dal chilla

Workout regime

Walking is an integral part of my workout regime. I started with 30 minutes of walking initially, which I have now extended to 1.5 hrs.

Fitness secrets I unveiled: If you are happy within, everything will feel good.

After quitting sugar and refined flour, I only ate home cooked meals. I could see change in my body within 20 days and so it was the point I realized I can do it and so I did it.

What’s the most difficult part of being overweight?

Getting bullied by your closest ones is the most difficult to handle. People called me names and they never realized that they were hurting my emotions. Additionally, finding clothes at the stores became a challenge. I felt like all the eyes were on me and my confidence level reduced to point zero.

What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line?: In 10 years, I want to be healthy. Being fat and being fit are just phases. I believe being healthy is important.

6/6

What are the lifestyle changes you made?

I avoided eating packaged foods as much as I could. No sugar, no refined flour, but more fruits and raw items

Lessons learnt from weight loss: Those who initially gave me tips and advices to lose weight, are now asking me for suggestions. This is why I believe that people’s attitude towards you changes with time and circumstances. Do not lose yourself, but love yourself for however and whoever you are.
